You’re probably ahead of the game and have all your holiday shopping done, right? Well, did you remember to get something for the special, furry, four-legged friend in your life? If not, be sure to stop by Bone Appetit in Brownsburg, a shop that focuses on handmade treats, quality food and special gifts for you or your favorite dog-lover. Owner Suzie Lee first opened the shop in Danville, then moved it to Brownsburg two years ago. This owner of a rescued Doberman loves her job — while she’s not nearly old enough to retire, she said the shop is like her retirement business because it’s so enjoyable. When you stop by, feel free to bring your dog, because they’re welcome in the store. You’ll find more than two dozen varieties of treats in bulk that you can mix yourself to create a combination specifically for your dog. You’ll see ingredients like sweet potato, pumpkin, peanut butter, blueberry and peppermint — the original recipes use all-natural ingredients and are corn, wheat and soy-free. In addition to delectable treats, Bone Appetit carries several brands of dog food that are also corn, wheat, grain, and soy-free. This shop is also the only place in Hendricks County you’ll find the Horizon brand of food. Want a gift of more than food and treats? You’ll also find treat jars, clothing, leashes, grooming supplies and toys. I was particularly impressed to see locally sourced and smoked bones — the BFE Trading Post of North Salem gets bones from Moody’s Butcher Shop and smokes them. Cat owners, don’t fret: You can find a few things for your feline friend, as well. Insider tip: Like Bone Appetit on Facebook to learn about fan-only deals each Saturday. Be sure to add Bone Appetit to your holiday shopping list — and stop by after the holidays, too!
