The 69th Annual Visit Hendricks County Night Before the 500 at Lucas Oil Raceway in Brownsburg isn't all that far away -- May 24, to be precise -- and this year, Visit Hendricks County is offering the opportunity for one special race fan to be this year's grand marshal of the race. Oh, yeah. You read that correctly. A race fan gets to be the grand marshal this year! How cool is that?! A.J. Watson (seated at bottom during pre-race ceremonies), a USAC Hall of Fame inductee, was last year's Visit Hendricks County Night Before the 500 Grand Marshal. Will you be on that stage this year? If you're selected to be the grand marshal, you'll get recognized during the pre-race ceremonies, you'll get a cool Visit Hendricks County Grand Marshal trophy, you'll get four general admission tickets to the Night Before the 500, and you'll get access to the Visit Hendricks County suite at the track! I watched last year's race from the Visit Hendricks County suite, and I'm here to say that the suite is sweet. From now until April 24, you can click here to fill out the entry form including telling Visit Hendricks County why you should be the grand marshal of this year's event. Let us know why you're the biggest race fan out there and/or why you love Lucas Oil Raceway so much. USF2000 cars hit speeds of about 110 mph on Lucas Oil Raceway during the Visit Hendricks County NIght Before the 500. Two runners up will receive four general admission tickets to the race, so it's definitely worth a shot to apply! “No sport has a more passionate fan base than motorsports so when Visit Hendricks County presented the idea of awarding a race fan with the opportunity to serve as grand marshal, it made perfect sense,” said Randy Simpson, general manager at Lucas Oil Raceway. “When you get down to it, Lucas Oil Raceway is really in the business of making memories, and this will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for one lucky race fan. I cannot wait to read each fan’s story – I might even submit my own!” There are some rules to this contest, of course, and you should definitely click here to read them. For example, you'll learn that you have to be 21 years of age to enter, you can only apply once per household, and you have to get your entry in by 11:59 p.m. EST on April 24. An on-track, up-close experience like this will be just one of the perks of being this year's grand marshal. For those who have never experienced the Night Before the 500, make plans to attend. The event showcases USAC Midget, Pro Mazda and USF2000 racing on Lucas Oil Raceway's paved 0.686-mile oval track. I'm partial to USAC Midget racing. I love watching those cars fly around the track at speeds that make my heart bounce. The race features up-and-coming stars of the sport including some previous winners you may have heard of like Johnny Parsons, Jeff Gordon and Kasey Kahne. Get your application in to be the grand marshal of the Visit Hendricks County Night Before the 500! I also like that the Night Before the 500 is family-friendly. You can feel comfortable bringing the kids and knowing that they'll have a good time. As an added bonus, kids 12 and under get in for free. Adult general admission is $25. Though because I am an insider, I possess a secret code for discounted tickets. See, reading my posts does have its perks! To get $5 off tickets, click here and use the promo code VISIT, so you can attend a fun racing event with the whole family without breaking the bank. And, of course, if you're named grand marshal of this year's Night Before the 500, you won't need to purchase tickets at all. So get those entries in, and let's go racing!
