In this week’s Primer, we tip our hat to the fictional made-for-TV Hoosier town of Pawnee, Ind., and its spunky character Leslie Knope (a.k.a. Amy Poehler) for our “Parks and Recreation” theme on what to see – and do – this weekend around Hendricks County. What’s more, you’ll want to get outside while you’re here as the early forecast is calling for a wonderful weather weekend. Rural Routes to Main Street Cultural Trail – “Second Saturdays” You never know what you might find each Second Saturday on the Rural Routes to Main Street Cultural Trail. It’s the second Saturday of the month and a wide variety of restaurants, shopping and cultural experiences await your arrival. This self-directed driving tour featuring about 30 artisan destinations adds even more stops and experiences during Second Saturdays. I love visiting the Cultural Trail because every time it is like a new experience. You never know what you might see or find because the creations are unmistakably unique and handmade. In fact, there is so much to see and do that I’ve not even made it to every site. Click here to learn more. Brownsburg Parks' Cache In, Trash Out Want to get back to nature? My recommendation is to head over to Williams Park in Brownsburg this weekend for a unique event for anyone who loves geocaching, helping the environment or both. The first-ever Cache In, Trash Out event will use geocaching coordinates to find places in the park to plant tulip trees and clean the trails and waterways. Picnic shelter at Williams Park. Registration begins at 10 a.m. Saturday as you can geocache to even find out where to meet. For more information or to register, click here. Avon Gardens Spring Open House Just in time for the much-anticipated…and overdue…arrival of spring, Avon Gardens is celebrating its first delivery of perennials, annuals, trees and shrubs during its annual spring open house. Avon Gardens, 6259 County Road 91 North, will even provide door prizes and light refreshments from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and noon-4 p.m. Sunday while you browse the gift shop and outside retail area for all the new merchandise for your garden and home. Avon Gardens If you love digging in the dirt, this is an event you will not want to miss. Click here for more information.
