Spring has officially arrived here in Central Indiana, and man, it's a beautiful one! Our family has been spending as much time as possible outside, soaking up the sunshine and the spring breeze. There's really nothing quite like spring in the Midwest.
Earth Day is also right around the corner, and there are some great things going on in Hendricks County this weekend that will get you and your family outside enjoying nature. Here are some of the highlights:
You've got an opportunity to get your spring flower beds looking great with the Earth Day Native Plant Sale at McCloud Nature Park. From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, you can come out to the park to purchase plants that are native to our area. Park staff and master gardeners will be on hand to answer your planting questions, and a professional landscaper will be giving a demonstration. Plant prices are $4 for 2 3/8" pots, or $3.50 if you shop the online presale. All funds from the plant sale will go toward improving our county parks. What a great way to help our environment and our community!
The Avon Outdoor Learning Center has a fun celebration planned this weekend. Their "Every Day is Earth Day" event on Saturday will feature a garden demonstration, earth-friendly vendors and a scavenger hunt. You can even catch the Indiana Pacers van from noon to 2 p.m. This is the perfect way to explore the outdoors with your family.
If you're looking for a unique date night this weekend, consider heading to the Avon-Washington Township Public Library on Saturday evening for ArtScape. This night of art and literature features work from local artists, live music, a dessert buffet, and a silent auction. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door, and all proceeds from the event benefit the library and its literacy programs. This is an excellent opportunity to support education in Hendricks County while enjoying the work of some of our local artists and musicians.
Finally, if you're looking to add a little excitement to your weekend, head out to Lucas Oil Raceway on Sunday for the first race of the Sunoco Race Fuels ET Bracket drag racing series.
If you've never experienced drag racing in person before, this is a great place to start. Spectator tickets are only $10, and kids 12 and under are free! This fun day of racing starts at 10 a.m.
Whatever you do this weekend, be sure to get outside and enjoy the Indiana sunshine! If you need more ideas on what to do this weekend or this month, be sure to check out the Visit Hendricks County Events Calendar.
