As July moves into August, many of us are going into "back-to-school" mode. Store aisles are filling with school supplies, and kids are getting ready for another year of learning. All the more reason to find as much fun as you can before summer is over.

This weekend has some great activities that you can only find in Hendricks County. Be sure to take advantage before this beautiful summer season slips away.

Big Walnut Creek Stomp

Get wet and get messy exploring Big Walnut Creek on Saturday at McCloud Nature Park. This free event from 1-3 p.m. is the perfect way to learn more about the local habitat while having lots of fun! Don't forget your towel, your sunscreen and your closed-toe shoes.

Danville Farmers MarketDanville Farmers Market

It's the perfect time to pick up some locally grown Indiana produce. Head to the Courthouse Square on Saturday morning and peruse the selection of fruits and vegetables, locally raised meats, handmade crafts and more. The market opens at 8 a.m. I recommend spending the morning there, and then walking over to one of the excellent restaurants on the Square for lunch!

Play'nfield in the Park

Celebrate local talent on Saturday at Play'nfield in the Park at Hummel Park. This festival features music, dance and theatrical performances, along with food trucks, a kids' zone and artist demonstrations. It's a great way to support the arts and local artists and performers!

Live Music Outside

Enjoying live music outdoors is one of the best parts of summer. There are two great opportunities to do just that this weekend.

On Friday, you can enjoy live music on the deck at The Coachman Restaurant (21 and older only) beginning at 8 p.m. On Saturday, Chateau Thomas Winery offers Music on the Veranda from 7-10 p.m. Either option would be the perfect way to spend a date night or a girls' night out!

You can find more ideas for summer fun on our Events Calendar and Insider Blog. Whatever you're up to this weekend, I hope you soak up every bit of summer fun Hendricks County has to offer.
