Weekend Primer: Oct. 26-27

The last weekend before Halloween will be a busy one in Hendricks County, full of family activities, maybe a zombie or two and definitely some black cats. The Indy Cat Club Show returns for a second consecutive year to Hendricks County. The two-day event, held Saturday and Sunday at the Duke Energy Event Center at the Metropolis Mall in Plainfield, will again showcase some of the country’s top show cats in an event similar to the Westminster Dog Show. But while similar in theory, because it is cats and not dogs, this show also is much different. You won’t see owners walking their cats around. It really is hard to describe in words and really has to be seen to be believed. If you are a cat lover, I would highly encourage you to check it out. Admission is $5 a person or $10 for a family. Yes, I did mention zombies in the opening paragraph because Avon is hosting a Zombie Walk on Saturday. This fund-raising event for the Hendricks County Food Pantry Coalition will include a showing of the movie, “Night of the Living Dead,” a cake-decorating contest, the much-anticipated “Thriller” dance and more from 2-5 p.m. at Monster Mini Golf in Avon. Natural Valley Ranch will host a Halloween Happenings Family Fun Night from 5-8 p.m. Saturday. Events include a costume contest, bonfire, hayrides, petting zoo, horse and pony rides and more at the ranch in Brownsburg. Admission is $35 a family of up to six people and $5 for each additional person. Speaking of Halloween activities, we have a ton of options this weekend. To keep this Weekend Primer short and simple, I would suggest going to our Events Calendar or checking out this story by our local insider, Jennifer Donovan, for more ideas. Finally, for you runners, Lucas Oil Raceway in Brownsburg will host a Dragstrip Dash 5K and Team Relay sponsored by IU Health West beginning at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. If I was a runner, I can’t think of a cooler experience in Hendricks County than getting to run down the famed drag strip. Have a great weekend and happy Halloween.
