DANVILLE, IN (April 27, 2015) - Visit Hendricks County will join the tourism industry May 2-10 to celebrate, educate and promote National Travel & Tourism Week by providing a number of prize giveaways and other activities to shine a light on what travel means to jobs, economic growth and personal well-being.

Gift certificates to some of Hendricks County's top attractions as well as event tickets are just a sampling of the prizes Visit Hendricks County will give away that week through their Hendricks County Insider blog and social media channels including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

"We are so excited to join our tourism partners in celebrating what this industry has accomplished and the bright future that lies ahead," said Jaime Bohler Smith, executive director of Visit Hendricks County. "Tourism is educational, fun, healthy and is all about making memories. But most of all, tourism is essential to our local economy and our lives."

Travel supports 15 million jobs in America. In Indiana alone, travel employs more than 187,000 people including a prosperous and diverse workforce from airline and hotel employees, to restaurant, attraction and retail workers, and supports industry sectors such as construction, manufacturing and finance.

Locally in Hendricks County, visitors spent $228.9 million in 2013 resulting in $133.4 million in direct economic impact that supported 4,782 jobs.

Visit Hendricks County will share many more facts and figures on the local impact of tourism throughout the week of May 2-10 including a word of the day that completes the sentence, "Travel is ________."
