We're hip deep into November now, which means that many people are planning for the holiday season, looking for those one-of-a-kind gifts for loved ones and looking for things to do. As always, Hendricks County offers a wealth of holiday gifts and activities.

My fellow blogger, Crystal Paschal, recently provided a great preview of the holiday craft shows taking place around Hendricks County over the next few weeks. Not to be outdone by Crystal, I present to you the top holiday events that are not craft shows.

Holiday Preview Night at Frazee Gardens

  • When:  Thursday, Nov. 13, 6 to 8 p.m.
  • Where:  Frazee Gardens, 3480 N. State Road 267, Brownsburg.
  • What:  The Brownsburg High School Special String Ensemble, Buck Creek Winery, the Green Street Pub & Eatery, My Hunny's Honey and Savor Thyme Cafe will be on hand to provide entertainment and raffle drawing prizes during this holiday preview.
  • Cost:  $5 per person. Proceeds benefit the Hendricks County Food Coalition Pantry, and ticket holders get 10 free entries in the raffle along with 50 percent off one item at Frazee Gardens that night.Holiday lights at Metropolis Mall in Plainfield, Indiana

Metropolis Holiday Kickoff Celebration 

  • When: Friday, Nov. 21, 5-7 p.m.
  • Where: Metropolis Mall, 2499 Futura Parkway, Plainfield.
  • What: Activities for families including games, music, giveaways and prizes.
  • Cost: Free.

Christmas in Coatesville

  • When:  Friday, Nov. 21 and Saturday, Nov. 22, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Where:  Coatesville, Ind.
  • What:  Christmas carols, hot cocoa and the tree lighting at Main and Milton streets at 6 p.m. on Nov. 21. Craft booths at the Community Building on Nov. 22. Downtown businesses open both days.
  • Cost:  Free.

Christmas at the Orchard

  • When:  Saturday, Nov. 22 and Saturday, Nov. 29, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Where:  Beasley's Orchard, 2304 E. Main St., Danville.
  • What:  Holiday shopping, food, live dulcimer music, professional photographs with Santa, kids' activities, face painting and more. Click here for lots more information.
  • Cost:  Free.

Danville Train ShowDanville Train Show at the Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds & Conference Complex, Danville, Indiana

  • When:  Saturday, Nov. 22, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Where:  Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds, 1900 E. Main St., Danville.
  • What:  Door prizes, kids' detail hunt, food and of course trains, trains and more trains.
  • Cost:  $3 per person, $5 per family. 

Christmas on the Square

  • When:  Friday, Nov. 28, 4 to 6 p.m.
  • Where:  Historic Hendricks County Courthouse Square, Danville.
  • What:  Caroling, Santa, tree lighting, lighting of the canopy over the Courthouse Square and more. Special new activity this year, so stay tuned to this blog for more information.
  • Cost:  Free. 

Winterland Light Show

  • When:  Opens Friday, Nov. 28 after Christmas on the Square. Open nightly from 6 to 9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and from 6 to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Closed on Christmas Day, but reopens daily Dec. 26-30.
  • Where:  Ellis Park, Danville.
  • What:  Drive-through Christmas light display with synchronized music that plays on your car radio.
  • Cost:  $8 per carload.

Cookies and Cocoa at Natural Valley Ranch

  • When:  Saturday, Dec. 6, 10:30 a.m. to noon OR 1:30 to 3 p.m.
  • Where:  Natural Valley Ranch, 6310 E. County Road 350 N., Brownsburg.Santa at Christmas Under the Stars parade in Brownsburg, Indiana
  • What:  Photos with Santa by the fire, holiday snacks, story time with Santa, Mrs. Claus or an elf, and a craft. Guests are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to a local food pantry.
  • Cost:  $5 per person.

Christmas Under the Stars Parade

  • When:  Saturday, Dec. 6, 6 p.m.
  • Where:  Along Main Street ending at Brownsburg Town Hall, 61 N. Green St.
  • What:  Nighttime parade, followed by activities and free pictures with Santa inside Town Hall.
  • Cost:  Free.
