Halloween is almost here! That makes this weekend the perfect time to explore some spooky Hendricks County history. It's also your last opportunity to experience some of our county's fall favorites before we transition into the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons.

Here's what we recommend you explore this weekend:

Featured Event

Hargrave Gym, Danville, IndianaMany people in Danville believe that the Hargrave Gym in Danville Town Hall is haunted -- and this weekend is your last chance to find out for yourself!

Haunted Hargrave Hall is a fun and scary experience happening Oct. 24. Lights on fun is going on from 5-6:45 p.m., and then at 7 p.m. the lights go out! Here's a great story about the legend surrounding Hargrave Hall.

Other Options

If you enjoy being out in nature and learning about animals, you'll want to check out the Moonlit Owl Prowl Saturday evening at McCloud Nature Park. This hike is a great opportunity to learn more about owls, and hopefully spot some as well!

Dog Daze at the Maze

Are four-legged friends more your style? Bring your pup to Beasley's Orchard Corn Maze for Beasley's Dog Daze at the Maze and help raise money for local animal rescues. There will also be great food, hayrides and activities for the whole family.

Don't have a furry friend of your own? Some adorable animals in need of a home will be at the event waiting to meet you!

If you're looking for a Halloween-themed event that is fun for the kids, head out to Washington Township Park in Avon for the Ghosts and Goblins Trick or Treat Trail. There will be a costume contest for the kids, trick or treating along the trails, food, raffles, and more. It's a great way to get a head start on building up that candy stash!

You can really work up an appetite looking for ghosts, so here are some great places to eat in Danville after you've explored its haunted history.

  • Diesel's Sports Grille offers up delicious All-American food and a relaxed atmosphere. Located right on Danville's Courthouse Square, it's close to movies and shopping.
  • Pizza Paradise is one of our family's favorite places. It's a great casual dining spot in Danville that both kids and adults can enjoy.
  • La Ranchera offers what I consider to be the best Mexican food in Danville...and the best margaritas! They're open for lunch and dinner, and an excellent choice for a family meal or a date night.
Don't stay inside this weekend! Enjoy these last moments of fall color and celebration before they're gone.
