Many of you may be planning a visit to Parke County for the annual Covered Bridge Festival Oct. 12-21. On your way there or back, plan on making a stop in Hendricks County. We have wonderful restaurants, outstanding attractions and a plethora of fall events and other things to do. Need a place to stay? We can help with that, too, with many affordable hotels in Plainfield, Brownsburg and Avon. Where to Eat Mayberry Cafe - Enjoy comfort food at this "Andy Griffith Show" themed cafe in Danville. Before you go in, take a look at the replica of Andy's police cruiser sitting out front. Then, while enjoying your meal, you can watch one of the many televisions airing "The Andy Griffith Show." Read a recent review from our blog. Black Swan Brewpub - If you are looking for lunch or dinner in Plainfield, I recommend the Black Swan. They have several house beers on tap and Chef Nick Carter tries to use as many Indiana products as possible in the menu. I highly recommend the Black Swan Fries. The fries are tossed in your choice of seasoning and dipping sauce. I always get the sea salt and vinegar with sun dried tomato aioli. Dawson's Too Sticks and Stones - I recently dined at this Brownsburg restaurant for the first time. I was very impressed and loved the contemporary atmosphere. Enjoy salads, steaks, seafood, pasta, pizza and sandwiches. Read more here. Charbonos - This Avon restaurant at the corner of U.S. 36 and Ind. 267, will make you feel like you are in Tuscany. Charbonos serves steaks, seafood, pasta and pizza. One of my favorite things about Charbonos is the salads. All of the dressings are made in-house. For more details, read my recent post. Where to Shop Finer Things Shop - This shop just opened in June in Brownsburg. The store carries a mix of work from Indiana artists and vintage goods. Read a review from fellow blogger, Amanda by clicking here. Gallery on the Square - Shop for one-of-a-kind art and jewelry from Hendricks County artists. This Danville gallery is operated by the Hendricks County Arts Council and is located on the east side of the Hendricks County Courthouse Square in Danville. Younique Boutique - Looking for something unique? This Avon boutique is small, but carries a lot merchandise. You will find jewelry, home decor, gift items and clothing. Read about fellow blogger Ericka's recent visit. Metropolis - This outdoor mall in Plainfield features your mainstream retail shops, a movie theater and restaurants. If the weather is nice, it is a great place to walk around. You will find stores such as JC Penney, Barnes and Noble, DSW, Bath and Body Works and Yankee Candle. Things to Do Beasley's Orchard - This orchard in Danville was recently voted by Indianapolis Monthly as one of "50 Things Every Hoosier Must Do!" Fall is a great time to visit Beasley's. In addition to a large selection of apples, you can also visit the pumpkin patch and find your way through the corn maze. If you are in town on Oct. 13 or 14, visit the Heartland Apple Festival at Beasley's. For more information, click here. Hendricks County Artisan Marketplace - Shop for one-of-a-kind items created by award-winning artists, sample fine food and enjoy music, readings and more at this first-year event. With an affordable $3 admission at the door and numerous hotels nearby, this is a perfect complement to a weekend at the Covered Bridge Festival. The Marketplace is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 13 at Primo West by Five Star Catering in Plainfield. Chateau Thomas Winery - Within walking distance of some great hotels and nice restaurants, this could be a perfect way to cap off a wonderful day. Sample award-winning wines, peruse the gift shop and more at this Plainfield winery. Where to Stay If you plan on staying overnight, check out our list of places to stay.
