Summer in Hendricks County, Indiana, brings with it a slew of opportunities for live music and outdoor movies for the whole family. Spend some summer evenings with us at these outdoor events that provide ample opportunity for social distancing and, unless otherwise indicated, free entertainment!
Rock the Block
- Arbuckle Commons, Brownsburg
- 7 p.m. Thursdays June 3 and 17; July 1, 15 and 29; Aug. 12 and 26; and Sept. 23
Brownsburg Parks & Recreation hosts Rock the Block on select Thursday nights throughout the summer at Arbuckle Commons. Enjoy live music, food trucks, a beer and wine garden, yard games and free family fun.

Movies in Town Square
- The Shops at Perry Crossing, Plainfield
- 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, June 3, 10, 17 and 24
Movies in Town Square are back in 2021! Join The Shops at Perry Crossing for a free and fun outdoor movie night every Thursday in June. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and meet on the Town Square lawn.
The slate of movies includes Trolls World Tour (June 3), Onward (June 10), The Croods: A New Age (June 17) and Sonic the Hedgehog (June 24). Pre-showtime activities including games and music with a live DJ begin at 7:30 p.m. Movies start at dusk.
Concert by the Creek
- Washington Township Park Amphitheater, Avon
- 7 p.m. Fridays, June 4, July 9 and Aug. 6
Washington Township Parks & Recreation, Avon Parks & Recreation and the Avon Chamber of Commerce join forces this summer to present three Concerts by the Creek: Living Proof (June 4), Abby Normal (July 9) and Jai Baker 3 (Aug. 6).
Admission is free, and food and drinks are available for purchase at the event.
Hummel Park Summer Concert Series
- Hummel Park, Plainfield
- 7 p.m. Saturdays June 5, July 24 and Aug. 14
The Hummel Park Concert Series features a variety of live music throughout the summer, including the Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra on June 5, Cook & Belle on July 24 and Big Rosco & The Hammers on Aug. 14.
Music begins at 7 p.m. The whole family will enjoy these free, fun-filled performances. Be sure to bring blankets and picnics.
Food can be purchased from food trucks on site. Alcohol is prohibited in the park.
Evenings in Ellis
- Ellis Park, Danville
- 7 p.m. Fridays June 11, July 9 and Aug. 13
Evenings in Ellis is a summer concert series in collaboration with Danville Parks & Recreation and the Town of Danville.
Come join the free family-friendly fun as The Warrior Kings presents a tribute to Led Zeppelin on June 11 and Mellencougar performs a tribute to John Mellencamp on Aug. 13. Both of these concerts begin at 7 p.m. in the amphitheater at the north end of Ellis Park.

The July 9 event features Jimmy Buffet tribute band Flip Flop Dave performing at the Gill Family Aquatic Center in Ellis Park, and it is an event for adults ages 21+ only. Doors to the aquatic center open at 6 p.m.

Summer Sounds on the Square

- 7 p.m. Saturdays June 19, July 17, Aug. 21 and Sept. 18
The 2021 Summer Sounds on the Square lineup, brought to you by the Downtown Danville Partnership, features Cornfield Mafia on June 19, Jennie DeVoe on July 17, Hunter & Girton on Aug. 21 and Levi Riggs on Sept. 18.
Gates open at 7 p.m. Be sure to bring your lawn chairs and find a good spot to enjoy the sounds of the evening.
A food court and adult beverage station is located inside the venue. No coolers are allowed. Cost is $10 for those 21 and over.
- 7 p.m. Friday, July 9 at Williams Park, Brownsburg
- 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20 at Arbuckle Acres Park, Brownsburg
Join Brownsburg Parks & Recreation for Summer Movie Nights in July and August!
They'll show The Croods: A New Age (rated PG) at Williams Park on July 9 and Herbie: Fully Loaded (rated G) at Arbuckle Acres Park on Aug. 20. Both movies begin at 7 p.m.
Be sure to bring a blanket or lawn chair to sit outdoors or stay in your car for a drive-in experience! Staying in your car? Tune to 102.9 FM to hear the movie. Admission is free.
Summer Celebration Free Concert
- Lucas Oil Raceway, Brownsburg
- 6 p.m. Friday, July 16 (gates open at 2 p.m.)
As part of the Indiana Black Expo Summer Celebration, a Free Concert will be held at Lucas Oil Raceway in July, featuring live performances by Keith Sweat, Stephanie Mills, Johnny Gil, El DeBarge, Dru Hill, Raheem DeVaughn and Kid Capri.
Would you like an up-close experience with the artists with special VIP seating during the concert? You can do that for just $50 a person by clicking here to purchase tickets. Otherwise, it's first-come, first-seated in the stands. There is also green space if you'd like to bring a blanket and sit in the grass.
For those who aren't yet comfortable at large gatherings, you can also stay in your vehicle in the parking lot and listen to the concert on 87.9 FM.
