May is upon us in Hendricks County, Indiana, and it's a month full of activities involving cars, kids and care. If you love racing, shopping, running or walking, Hendricks County is the place to be during the month of May.

Walk & Talk Wellness Series: Caring for the CaretakersWalk and talk at Arbuckle Acres Park in Brownsburg during the month of May.

Brownsburg Parks & Recreation is happy to partner with local mental health organizations to host their first Walk and Talk Series of 2021: Caring for the Caretakers. The Walk & Talk Series is free to attend and will be held on Wednesday nights during May from 7 to 8 p.m. at Arbuckle Acres Park, Shelter 8.

At each Walk & Talk, you’ll have the chance to meet others in your community who are also caring for loved ones who are facing a challenge. Each program will start with a short, easy hike in the woods to connect with nature and break the ice.

Afterward, you may choose to stay with the group for a private conversation about the topics below lead by the professional from each of the following organizations. 

  • May 5: Overcoming Anxiety with Care to Change
  • May 12: Addiction and Recovery with The Willow Center
  • May 19: Parents/Family of Depressed and Suicidal Children: Refueling Hope
  • May 26: Parents of Kids with Special Needs: K1ds Count Therapy

First Friday Cruise-InsFirst Friday Cruise-Ins return to Danville in May!

On the first Friday of every month from May through October, the Indy Hi-Winders Car Club fills the historic Hendricks County Courthouse Square in Danville with all sorts of classic cars and hot rods during First Friday Cruise-Ins. This year's series begins this Friday, May 7 from 5 to 9 p.m.

This free, family-friendly event features over 200 cars and is a perfect opportunity to wander around the Courthouse Square to check out all of the popular businesses, such as Mayberry Cafe, Red's Donuts, Danville Dips, Courthouse Grounds, Frank's Place and more.

If you're a fan of diesel engines, you'll want to be at Lucas Oil Raceway in Brownsburg on May 21-23 for the 2021 Ultimate Callout Challenge.

The Ultimate Callout Challenge brings together the best competitors in North America to battle it out in drag racing, sled pulling and dyno competition. After the three days and the three events, their scores are calculated to find out who is the 2021 UCC Champion!

Walking for the Health of ItWalking for the Health of It

The First Annual Walking for the Health of It 5K for Mental Health Awareness will be held at Williams Park in Brownsburg on May 22. This event will consist of a 5K (3.1 miles) race or walk and a 1-mile dedication walk (for those that wish to support mental health awareness but are not runners).

The purpose of this event is to raise awareness about mental health and to reduce the stigma associated with mental health diagnosis. The event is also designed to encourage healthy coping skills (exercising) that are scientifically proven to increase mental health functioning and reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Summer Fun Run SeriesThe 2021 Summer Fun Run Series begins at McCloud Nature Park on May 26.

The Parks Foundation of Hendricks County is excited to host the 13th Annual Summer Fun Run Series in 2021. If you love parks, enjoy being outdoors and are up for an active summer challenge, you’ll want to sign up for the 2021 Summer Fun Run Series, presented by Hendricks Regional Health.

The first Summer Fun Run of 2021 takes place on May 26 from 4 to 7 p.m. at McCloud Nature Park outside of North Salem. Hendricks County Parks & Recreation staff will be there, offering a short course and a long course on trails of gravel and natural surfaces for runners and walkers, along with ice cold water for you to cool down when you're done. The Parks Foundation is also offering virtual runs at McCloud through June 1.

Carb Night ClassicThe USAC Carb Night Classic at Lucas Oil Raceway in Brownsburg will take place on May 28.

Whet your Indy 500 whistle with a full day of racing at the Carb Night Classic: The Night Before the 500 on May 28 at Lucas Oil Raceway in Brownsburg.

Featuring four great racing series on one big night, the Road to Indy’s Cooper Tires USF2000 drivers will take to the track first. Indy Pro 2000 will follow while the return of Pavement Midgets and USAC Silver Crown Cars will end the night.

There will be a $5,000 to-win purse for the Pavement Midgets and a $10,000 to win-purse for the USAC Silver Crown.
