September is a busy month in Hendricks County, Indiana, which makes it a great time of year to come visit us! This month brings us the first day of autumn, the crown jewel of drag racing events, shopping opportunities, live music and more!
Denso Spark Plugs NHRA U.S. Nationals
Right off the bat, September roars into Hendricks County with the 66th Annual Denso Spark Plugs NHRA U.S. Nationals coming to Lucas Oil Raceway in Brownsburg on Sept. 3-6. The Big Go is the biggest and best event in drag racing each year and is the final race in which drivers can qualify for the NHRA Countdown to the Championship.
There will be some changes to the event due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but there won't be any changes to the sights, sounds and smells of the action on the track. Get ready for break-neck speeds, fierce battles down the drag strip and all the excitement that a person can handle over Labor Day weekend.

Summer Sounds on the Square: Levi Riggs
Summer Sounds on the Square is a monthly event from June through September where fans of live music converge on the historic Hendricks County Courthouse Square in Danville with their lawn chairs to enjoy an outdoor evening concert. A food court that also sells adult beverages keeps everyone's bellies full and spirits high as the music flows.
You'll want to make a point of attending Summer Sounds on the Square on Sept. 19 because country star Levi Riggs will be on stage that night. Levi is a pretty big deal around here, not only for his fabulous country music, but also because he grew up right here in Hendricks County! Gates open at 6;30 p.m. and the tunes start playing at 7:30 p.m.
(Insider tip: You'll want to get there early to get a good spot on the Courthouse Square. Levi Riggs' concerts are always very well-attended, as you can see in the photo.)
Admission is only $7 per person ages 21 and up. If you're 20 years old or younger, you get in for free!
Indiana Guitar Show

We have three popular outdoor mazes every autumn in Hendricks County, and two of them open up in September.
McCloud Prairie Maze
The snake-themed McCloud Prairie Maze is already open at McCloud Nature Park just outside of North Salem. This maze is open from dawn to dusk daily and is free for families to enjoy. It is cut into a 52-acre prairie at the park and offers a stroll of about a half-mile if the correct course is followed.
(Insider tip: The prairie at McCloud Nature Park was burned to the ground in April of 2020 -- on purpose! Wanna know why? Wanna see how quickly the prairie grass grew back? Click here.)
Beasley's Orchard Corn Maze
A hat-tip to healthcare workers opens up in a cornfield at Beasley's Orchard in Danville on Sept. 19. It's open on Saturdays and Sundays and costs $7 per person (kids ages 2 and under are free). But there's a special offer for healthcare workers!
Beasley's Orchard is offering FREE Combo Pass admission for all healthcare workers, whether you're from Hendricks Regional Health, IU Health or out of town. Healthcare workers also get 50% off Combo Pass admission for their immediate family members throughout the entire fall season!
The third fall maze -- the one at Hogan Farms Pumpkin Patch & Corn Maze in Brownsburg -- opens on the first weekend of October.
