In the quaint, rural setting of North Salem, down a country road, over a one-lane bridge and tucked back between the trees, you will find a new farmers market in Hendricks County. Hosted by Blessings From Earth Farms, this Farmers Market and Swap Meet will be held every second and fourth Saturday through October. Hearing about this new farmers market just the other day, the girls and I decided to go check it out. As we arrived, we were immediately greeted with smiles and hellos. And the girls and I were in shopping heaven. As we browsed, we found so many different and unique items. Everything from arts and crafts to primitives and antiques. Vintage and handmade items as well as baked goods, local produce and foods. Amen Affordable Bakery in Danville had a booth with pies, cookies and cakes. There were handmade scented waxes and warmers. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with the variety of items available. I fell in love with a gorgeous table handmade from a piece of white picket fence that would look wonderful on my back patio. And I found the prices to be very affordable. There was a food truck selling kettle corn and pork rinds. And also a concession stand offering biscuits and gravy, sloppy joes, hot dogs and other items. If you come hungry, don't worry. You can sit down and enjoy some food and country air. Organizer Paula Alkire hopes this new market will become a family-friendly Central Indiana destination for bargain shoppers, vintage enthusiasts, and friends of farmers markets who want fresh, local produce and foods. The girls and I had a ball and will definitely be visiting again soon. Cost is $3 a person and children 10 and under are free. You will also receive a ticket to enter a drawing for a fresh 'goodie' from the farm. You will definitely want to take a couple hours out of your Saturday and visit BFE Farms. The swap meet and farmers market is open 9 a.m. to dusk every second and fourth Saturday of the month through October. Located just around the corner from McCloud Nature Park, you can head on back to the little farm house tucked between the trees. This is one you don't want to miss.
