For over a decade now, Visit Hendricks County has produced stories about the attractions, businesses and people that make our destination such a great place to visit, work and live.

I even owe my current job here at Visit Hendricks County in a small way to the Hendricks County Insider. Part of the reason I was hired here nearly 11 years ago was to start this blog for our company after having served as a writer and editor for a number of newspapers including the Indianapolis Star.

Who We Are Looking ForCome join our team and share your experiences with visitors and locals.

We've had a number of writers through the years contribute to this blog, but we felt it was time for a refresh in 2022. We wanted to add new team members with fresh perspectives and incorporate more high-quality photography and videography into what we do.

If this even sounds a little intriguing, and you have some experience in any or all of these areas, please apply. If you know of anyone who might be a good fit, please pass this along to them and encourage them to apply.

We would prefer our team members either live in or near Hendricks County. We want them, after all, to be local experts. And while writing, photography and/or videography experience is preferred; it isn't required.

Click on the button below to apply now or for more information. You can also contact me directly by email or by phone at (317) 718-8750, Ext. 7, if you have additional questions you can't find answers to before applying.

Insider RecommendationEric Ivie

As you consider whether this might be something you want to do with your free time, I figured why not hear from one of our Insiders who has been with us since the beginning.

Let me introduce you to Eric Ivie, who not only has been a great contributor to our blog for more than a decade, but is a great member of our community as well as an amazing husband and dad.

Here's his thoughts about his time as a Hendricks County Insider in his own words:

I have been blogging for Visit Hendricks County for about 10 years, and it has been an adventure that I wouldn’t trade for the world. What started as a way to make a little extra money and to sharpen my writing skills has turned into a passion.

Meeting new people, learning about their extraordinary talents and business ideas, discovering new local events and attractions, exploring hidden gems and finding ways to bring those local businesses, events and attractions to light is a very rewarding experience.

I have made lasting friendships, explored areas of Hendricks County and discovered amazing stories of the people with whom we share a community – all because of Visit Hendricks County.

From a writer’s perspective, I thoroughly enjoy the creative freedom that Visit Hendricks County allows me to tell a story. I like being able to share what I’ve learned about local businesses, events and attractions in my own voice.

I like that I can have open and honest discussions with my editor about anything that I encounter, and we work together to find the best way to promote the county. And a bit selfishly, it’s a thrill to see my blog posts take off like wildfire on social media from time to time.

Big nationwide chains have big marketing engines, but local businesses and organizations do not. Learning their stories, creating blog posts about them that capture the readers’ attention and shedding some light on “the little guy” is an incredibly rewarding feeling.

Hendricks County has a lot to offer its citizens and visitors, and a lot of that is still waiting to have their story told. Blog for Visit Hendricks County and tell those stories. Help small businesses, events and attractions be seen. Spread your wings as a writer and hone your craft. Have your own adventures, discoveries and successes. Make Hendricks County an even better place to live, work and play.
