A year ago, we asked our Facebook community for input on the best-kept secrets in Hendricks County. We received a ton of great suggestions, and last year's blog post was wildly popular. Amo Pizza Shop Hendricks County is in a perpetual state of growth, so we wanted to see what hidden gems our Facebook community feels everyone should know about in 2014. Again, we had a great response. So without further ado, behold the second edition of Hendricks County's Best-Kept Secrets.
  • Amo Pizza - When a pizza shop located in a town of 400 people has more than 1,700 "likes" on its Facebook page, you know it serves up a fantastic pie. In fact, Amo Pizza won the Visit Hendricks County Pizza Playoffs in 2012. It's well worth the trip to Amo for a slice of this pizza heaven. (Tip: There is also an interesting historical marker near Amo Pizza.)
  • Court House Grounds - Before becoming a world famous blogger for Visit Hendricks County, I used to work on the historic Hendricks County Courthouse Square in Danville. Court House Grounds, located on the east side of the square, was a regular stop for me to get some piping-hot coffee, a fantastic pastry or a scrumptious meal. Now they serve English tea, too! (Tip: Court House Grounds is one of the shops on the Downtown Danville Chocolate Walk, going on right now!)
  • Let Del's Performance Cycles in Brownsburg get your two-wheeled baby ready to roll this spring. (Photo courtesy of Del's Performance Cycles Facebook page) Del's Performance CyclesGot a motorcycle that needs parts, a tune up or other maintenance before spring? Need some Dynojet tuning? How about a yard tractor or four-wheeler or virtually anything with a small engine that could use some TLC? You'll want to check out Del's Performance Cycles in Brownsburg. The shop owners -- the Larkin family -- are experienced, knowledgable, friendly and active in the community. They maintain and have repaired the Danville Girls Softball Association's Gator that's used heavily on the ball diamonds, and they're also involved with the No Hatin' Drag Racing Organization events at Lucas Oil Raceway, among other activities.
  • Hoosa at the Mediterranean Grill in Avon. Mediterranean Grill - 'Tis the season of New Year's resolutions, the most popular of which is to be healthier. Fellow blogger Elaine Whitesides discovered that eating healthier and enjoying delicious food are not mutually exclusive at the Mediterranean Grill in Avon. Click here to read more about her positive experience there.
  • Old Bob's - In theory anyway, winter around here will end at some point. Get a jump start on spring by visiting Old Bob's in Avon, where you can find bird feeders, outdoor furniture, cottages and storage, wallpaper and borders, all sorts of nature-related gifts and more. Blogger Aimee MacArthur recently pegged Old Bob's as a top shopping location in Hendricks County.
  • Outta the Shed is on the Downtown Danville Chocolate Walk, and they have all sorts of great decoration and gift ideas for Valentine's Day. Outta the Shed - I just discovered Outta the Shed while participating in the Downtown Danville Chocolate Walk. This shop on the east side of the Courthouse Square sells really cool antiques and vintage items. I could get lost in there for hours, and that's saying something. My wife will attest that my tolerance for shopping is somewhere between slim and none. I went in there for a piece of chocolate and came out with a new wall-hanging for our house, their business card and a new favorite stop for home decor and gifts.
  • Paint & Sip - Going stir crazy from the winter weather? Look no further than Paint & Sip, located in the Gallery on the Square in Danville. Get some friends together, sip your favorite beverage, and paint a picture under the tutelage of local artist Flory Phillips. No experience necessary! My wife loves these activities, and she likes to tell people that she has no artistic talent whatsoever. Yet several of her terrific paintings hang in our home. Up next: a "fun flowers" painting event on Feb. 22. Visit their website for more details.
  • Savor Thyme Cafe - This fine-dining establishment is located in Brownsburg and would be an excellent spot for a nice romantic Valentine's Day dinner with your sweetie. Blogger Aimee MacArthur visited Savor Thyme right before Christmas, and she came away with a new favorite restaurant in Hendricks County. Click here to read more about her experience.
  • Let your kids bounce off the walls -- literally -- at Sky Zone Indoor Trampoline Park in Plainfield. Sky ZoneIf your kids are like mine, they're bouncing off the walls from being stuck inside. Instead of your kids bouncing off your walls, take them to Plainfield and let them bounce off Sky Zone's walls...literally! Sky Zone is chock full of trampolines -- including on the walls! -- that allow kids of all ages to burn off some energy and have a great time doing it. Blogger Ericka Bethel experienced Sky Zone last winter. Click here to read more about it.
  • Wilbur's Lincolnwood Toy Store - I got completely hooked on this toy store in Brownsburg two Christmases ago. Between the unique educational toys and the fantastic man, Wilbur Tague, who owns the shop -- and looks just like Abraham Lincoln -- it was a terrific experience that has resulted in me and my family returning there time and time again.
Thank you to all of our readers for shedding light on these best-kept secrets and hidden gems in Hendricks County! Let's make this an annual tradition, shall we?
