Mother’s Day is on May 11, and it’s always been a special time for my family. As kids, we always made mom breakfast in bed and gave her handmade cards and crafts.
As an adult, I find it more difficult to find the perfect thing and have often turned toward experiences over a physical gift.
Hendricks County, Indiana, has a variety of events geared toward recognizing mom, and it might be the perfect time to try something new. Whether you want to schedule a family outing, get the girls together for a girl’s day out or simply send mom for some rest and relaxation, you can find something close to home without breaking the bank.
Mokey’s On the Square is serving up a pre-Mother’s Day Sip and Shop with craft cocktails and charcuterie while learning more about permanent jewelry on May 6.
Sweet Minis Cake Bar in Plainfield is hosting a Mother’s Day Brunch on May 3 with brunch treats and a tea party, and Cooper’s Hawk in Avon has a Brunch and Bubbles menu, available on Saturdays and Sundays.
Hendricks County has a variety of dining options if you’re looking for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner.
Has mom been to Avon Gardens? It’s a beautiful place to visit all season long but on May 18, just a week after Mother's Day, they’ll host their annual Spring Palooza featuring live music, an artisan fair, garden crafts and more.
I would also recommend checking out the local parks and recreation departments. They have fun and often free events for the entire community. A walk in and along one of Hendricks County’s many parks and trails is another great way to get out and enjoy the sunshine with mom.
I’m not sure many moms would turn down a shopping day. The Shops at Perry Crossing not only has great shops for clothing, candles, shoes and more, you can make a day of it with restaurants like Stone Creek Dining Company, Theo’s Italian or Bru Burger. They also have activities ranging from axe throwing to virtual golf.
If a quaint bookstore or boutique is more your style, check out the Hendricks County Courthouse Square in Danville or Main Street in Brownsburg.
Moms often don’t take the time for self-care, let alone relaxation. Hendricks County is full of places you can go to get a massage, manicure, pedicure or hair styling – all the way up to dermaplaning, cosmetic injections, laser hair removal and more.
A gift card always works, or you can make it a day out to get pampered in honor of mothers everywhere. Check out Salon D’va in Avon, S2 Aesthetics in Brownsburg or a host of other great spa options in the area.
This might be my favorite, an afternoon of creativity and fun for the entire family. Gallery on the Square in Danville has classes ranging from paint, fused glass or clay.
Brightly Art Studio in Brownsburg is hosting a Mother’s Day floral arrangement class on May 9 for adults, and they have a variety of classes for everyone to enjoy. Or try your hand at making tie dye apparel at The Tie Dye Lab in Avon or paint something special at UPaint Pottery Studio in Plainfield.
It might not be on Sunday specifically but Hendricks County offers plenty of live experiences to enjoy with mom too. Check out the calendar at Hendricks Live! for a variety of music, performances and other entertainment in the coming weeks and months.
Catch a movie at the historic Royal Theater in Danville or join in at The Prewitt Restaurant + Lounge in Plainfield for regularly scheduled entertainment throughout the month. Finally, Evenings in Danville, featuring five live performances launches on the Hendricks County Courthouse Square on May 16 in Danville.
