Winter Break is quickly approaching. A few weeks off from school can be a much needed break for students, but parents need to figure out what to do with their kids at home for a few weeks.

While it's often filled with holiday activities and family and friend get-togethers, some days seem long and need to be filled with some fun, relaxing activities.

Here's a look at a few places throughout Hendricks County, Indiana, were you and your kids can find some great activities and places to enjoy those days off from school.

McCloud Nature Park is celebrating the Winter Solstice on Dec. 17. It's an activity for all ages, and it's a great way to celebrate the shortest day of the year.

W.S. Gibbs Memorial Park is hosting a New Year's Eve Family Countdown to 2023. They'll serve "mocktails" and snacks and have activities for the family. W.S. Gibbs Memorial Park in Avon recently opened in 2021 and has lots to explore, so even if you don't make it to their New Year's Eve countdown, you can enjoy the park in the winter.

If you're looking for activities for New Year's Day, Washington Township Parks will host a Resolution Run and a First Hike of the Year. Both could be a great way to start 2023!

Finally, the Brownsburg Parks Department is offering Winter Break Day Camps throughout the two-week school break, so our outdoor parks will have a lot going on to keep visitors and residents busy this holiday season.

Get Creative!Brightly Art Studio

If you're looking for some indoor options, Hendricks County has some great creative spaces!

During winter break, Brightly Art Studio in Brownsburg is offering Winter Workshops. Their Elfie Selfie Winter Workshop is before Christmas and is created as a drop-off class for kindergartners through 5th graders. They also have others workshops and events planned for New Year's Eve and the following week.

You can also check out uPaint Pottery Studio in Plainfield, where they offer a kid-friendly, paint-your-own-experience. You can drop in or join them for a You Paint a Story activity in early January.

Finally, if you have some time off to join your kiddos, I highly recommend a trip to The Tie Dye Lab in Avon. This do-it-yourself experience provides loads of fun for the entire family as you create tie-dye masterpieces you get to take home the same day, and the staff there cleans up the mess for you.

Get to the Libraries! You never know what programs you might find during holiday break at our public libraries.

I continue to be impressed with the libraries in Hendricks County. They offer a variety of programming throughout the year but they continue to offer great programming during school breaks.

Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library will offer their normal programming as well as holiday activities such as Teen Craft: Pom Pom Penguin and a Winter Movie Marathon where teens can stop in during Winter Break for a movie marathon every weekday afternoon.

Check out their Instagram or their Facebook Page for updated events.

Brownsburg Public Library, as well as Avon-Washington Township Library and Danville's Public Library are also offering events during the holiday winter break.

Check their calendars for specific details -- which include everything from Birdseed Christmas Trees to a Bob Ross Painting event.

Get Moving Indoors!Kid's Planet in Brownsburg, Indiana

Kid's Planet in Brownsburg is open throughout Winter Break, and they're offering a buy 2 admissions get 1 free. Kid's Planet offers so much for kids of all ages. Read our Kid's Planet tips before you head to Kid's Planet so you'll have the best visit.

Another great option in Brownsburg can be found at Press Play Gaming Lounge. This place is all about making sure the entire family stays active with virtual reality stations, Nerf wars, three-point shootout and more. They have food, party rooms, family pods and other ways to make your experience even more enjoyable.

The Richard A. Carlucci Recreation and Aquatic Center in Plainfield also offers a great option for the winter months and winter break. They have posted open rec pool times for their indoor waterpark on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays during holiday break. They also have basketball courts, a children's indoor play area and much more.
