If you are looking for something fun to do this weekend and you especially like parks and arts, you should make a weekend visit to Hendricks County a priority. The Danville Parks and Recreation Department has a fun evening planned for families on Friday during its Family Campout Night. Families can enjoy a night of camping, fun games, smores, an outdoor movie and more in Ellis Park. Each family is responsible for bringing their own camping gear, but all food, drinks and games will be provided by the parks staff. Cost is $10 a family, but hurry, registration is required and ends today. Call (317) 745-3015 to register or for more details. On Saturday, you can bring along your pooches for another park event, this time at McCloud Nature Park in North Salem for Bark in the Park. Naturalists will guide dogs and their families on a trail hike perfectly suited for your four-legged friend. The hike will end at Big Walnut Creek where the dogs can romp and play in the water. All pets must be kept on a leash, but the event is free and doggie bags will be provided. Finally, I have a few arts and culture events that I want to bring to your attention. Saturday will be the second Saturday of the month, which is always a good time to experience the Rural Routes to Main Street Cultural Trail. This self-guided, self-directed driving tour will take you on the back roads of Hendricks and Morgan counties featuring art galleries, restaurants, shopping destinations and more with more than 30 stops along the trail. The trail grows during its monthly Second Saturdays event as eight more locations open to the public, and many of the stops host hands-on workshops or classes. A couple of stops along the Rural Routes trail also have special showings this month. At Artistic Designs Gallery in Brownsburg, you can kill two birds with one stone as it is currently showcasing the Miniature Fine Arts Show and Art on Fire Glass Art display, which is part of the Indiana Glass Trail. So, get out there and have an amazing weekend!
