The holiday season is upon us, and to my dismay, it often goes too quickly. If you're like me, you want to make the most of each weekend and the chance to enjoy the season with family.
This weekend, there are a variety of events in Hendricks County you won't want to miss.
The Hendricks Symphonic Society will host their annual Christmas program at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Sunday. You're sure to get into the spirit with a variety of Christmas music from the Hendricks Symphony Orchestra and Choir. Additionally, the beautiful dancers from The Children's Ballet will perform selections from The Nutcracker. I may be a little biased, as my daughter will be one of the ballerinas, but I know that these dancers have been working hard for this performance.
I'm looking forward to the whole program and the chance to slow down during this busy season. Come enjoy the sights, sounds and beauty of the season with classics like Carol of the Bells, Joy to the World and Silent Night and some beautiful ballet. You're sure to feel the Christmas spirit.
Christmas Potpourri will be held at Avon Middle School North, 1251 Dan Jones Road, Avon. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $7 for students/children. Purchase discounted tickets before the performance at public libraries or North Salem State Bank branches in Hendricks County. You can also purchase tickets and get more information about the the concert here.
Candy Cane Hunt
This new event will offer festive fun for the whole family. Visit Santa, enjoy the petting zoo and have a snack at Natural Valley Ranch this Saturday.
My kids always love any event or time we spend at Natural Valley Ranch. If you have never visited and you have an animal lover of any kind, this is a perfect opportunity. It's amazing how much joy a kiddo can get just looking at all the animals.
They'll offer two sessions for the Candy Cane Hunt event - 10-11:30 a.m. or 1-2:30 p.m. Tickets are $7 per person the day of the event or $5 a person in advance. Purchase advanced tickets here.
North Salem Old Fashion Christmas
This two-day event is sure to get even the biggest Scrooge in the holiday spirit. The festivities start from 6-9 p.m. on Friday. Take a free carriage ride and soak up the old-fashioned charm. Warm up with dinner at the chili cook-off and fuel up for some Christmas shopping at the local merchants.
On Saturday, bring the kiddos for breakfast with Santa from 8-10 a.m. at the North Salem Methodist Church. It is a free-will donation event. Activities continue throughout the day and local merchants will be open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
"Our Favorite Things" Shopping Event
This family-friendly event, hosted by Macaroni Kid Hendricks, will be held from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday at the Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds & Conference Complex in Danville. More than 30 vendors will be there including favorites such as LuLaRoe, Scentsy, Premiere Designs Jewelry and Bubble Bees Boutique. This is a great one-stop shopping opportunity to find unique gifts for those on your list. Plus, there will be drawings and giveaways.
This is even a shopping trip the kiddos won't mind either as they can enjoy a candy cane scavenger hunt, crafts and pictures with Santa (11 a.m.-2 p.m.).
Shoppers will also have the chance to win the season's hottest toy - a Hatchimal.
That is just a sampling of the things to do this weekend in Hendricks County. To find more things to do anytime, check out the Visit Hendricks County Events Calendar.
