While you might think it may be hard for the last weekend in July to deliver as much of a bang as the first weekend, I have news for you. While there may not be any fireworks, Hendricks County will host some special events this upcoming weekend for visitors and residents alike. Lucas Oil Raceway, Hendricks County's No. 1 visitor attraction, will kick things off by hosting two exciting events on its oval. Festivities begin on Friday night as future NASCAR drivers rub wheels with a few veterans during the Night of the Stars Twin 100's event featuring the CRA Late Model Series. Names that should be familiar to any NASCAR fan -- Ken Schrader, David Stremme and Kenny Wallace -- will make special appearances on Friday night as they race against mainstays of the series, including points leader Cody Coughlin, series veteran Tom Woodin and Ross Kenseth, son of NASCAR champion Matt Kenseth. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. with qualifying at 6 p.m. and the first of the twin races beginning at 8 p.m. at Lucas Oil Raceway in Brownsburg. Speedfest then continues on Saturday as the USAC Silver Crown Rich Vogler Classic takes to the oval. The biggest cars in the USAC series always put on a show so this should be a great ending to one of the biggest weekend's on the Lucas Oil Raceway oval. Gates open at 4 p.m. Racing begins at 8 p.m. If music is more your thing, Metropolis Mall in Plainfield has you covered with a little motorsports sprinkled in to fit perfectly with this weekend's racing theme. Inside the Fast Lane with Mikeschair & Michael McDowell will provide an hour of inspirational entertainment beginning at 7 p.m. Friday near Rave Theater inside the outdoor mall. The free acoustic concert by Mikeschair will be accompanied by testimonies from McDowell and other race car drivers. Finally, we don't want to leave out the ladies. So while the guys are enjoying the race or race-themed concert, take your daughter, niece or granddaughter to a tea party. Tea in Wonderland encourages dress up as the event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Crown Room in Brownsburg will include mini manicures for the little ones, tea and treats, a Wonderland-themed photo shoot and much more. But don't be late, space is limited. Click here for more information. As always, you can check out Visit Hendricks County's Events Calendar anytime for more information. Have a wonderful weekend!
