Those summer days are dwindling, but there is still plenty of fun to be had in Hendricks County. Here are a few ways to enjoy this weekend.
It's no secret, I love this place. The land, the barn, the activities, and of course, all the delicious fresh produce and treats. The "market" season is back in full swing at Beasley's Orchard, and this weekend is a great time to enjoy it.
Their super popular sweet corn will be in market this weekend as well as the last of their Lodi apples. Peaches are in stock and their incredible peach pies are flying off the shelves.
It's also the perfect weather for cider slushies - my family's favorite. Especially after some running and games in the Barnyard Bonanza. This is the last weekend for $3 admission to the Barnyard Bonanza - a play area featuring football, baseball, basketball, a spiderweb rope climber, a corn crib (think sandbox, but with corn) and an enormous inflated jumping pillow.
Families with little ones will love this play area, but teens and adults will enjoy it just as much. Mine can shoot basketballs all day, even with a cider slushie in one hand.
The market and Barnyard Bonanza are open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday-Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
A Night of Jazz Outdoor Concert
Joe Herr and the Blue Saloon Band will perform a jazz concert under the summer, star-lit sky Friday. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. at the Danville Music Palace, 1225 W. County Road 100 South, Danville.
Tickets are a donation of $10 a person at the gate. Kids 12 and under are free. Ticket donations will help the Hendricks Regional Health Foundation buy a van to provide patient transportation. How great is that?
Bring your own refreshments, blankets or chairs and come enjoy a great evening of jazz.
'Play'nfield in the Park
On Saturday, you can take in a full day of performing arts for free at Hummel Park, 1500 S. Center St., Plainfield.
This event from noon-10 p.m. will include performances by bands from Launch Pad Rock Studios, "Plainfield's Got Talent" talent show, numerous food trucks and a kid's zone. At 7 p.m., Hendricks Civic Theatre will present the comedy Arsenic and Old Lace. This is a great event for the whole family. You might even catch some live performers wandering the park. Get more information here.
Brownsburg Summer Concert and Food Truck Rally
You can enjoy this awesome event on Sunday at Arbuckle Acres Park in Brownsburg. This free concert will begin with an open-mic at 3 p.m., and the band Jambox will take the stage at 5 p.m.
Food trucks at this event will include: Far-Out-Fred's, Karma Kitchen, Taste of the Caribbean, EMT and Two Chicks Wiskey Business. So come hungry! Between bites, you also can do a little shopping with Brick & Belle boutique.
Splash or Swim
With summer break coming to a close, so, too, is the outdoor pool season. Sad times. You'll want to take advantage of the remaining days and squeeze in another visit to any of our area pools and water parks. Get all the details about outdoor water fun in Hendricks County here.
Summer is not over, just yet, but get out there this weekend and enjoy it before it is gone.
