Spring is definitely a common theme this weekend as we roll into the month of May. As the weather improves, our weekends in Hendricks County begin to fill up fast with fun activities to enjoy.
So let's spring to it with this week's Primer, which is packed full of fun for you and your family.
Hummingbird Spring Migration at McCloud
To the average person, so little is known about these tiny birds that are so fun to watch from your picture window. Well, McCloud Nature Park is giving families a chance to learn much more during a free Hummingbird Spring Migration program at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Park naturalists will partner with Wild Birds Unlimited owners to share some knowledge about this fascinating bird. Participants will learn about their anatomy, migration patterns and how to encourage these birds to come into your own backyard including a recipe for homemade nectar.
NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series
Located just east of Brownsburg, Lucas Oil Raceway will host their annual NHRA Drag Racing Series. Officially kicking off the 2015 season, fans will flock from all over to see these amazing vehicles in action.
With events happening all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday, come spend a few hours or all three days.
Tickets are $20 per day including a pit pass and children 12 and under are free with a paid adult. This Spring Spectacle of Speed will definitely be a crowd pleaser.
Spring Fling Radio Controlled Festival
The Spring Fling Radio Controlled Festival will provide plenty of action from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at Avon Town Hall Park. Demonstrations and displays of radio-controlled airplanes, cars, trucks and even boats will fill the park.
We had a chance to see a radio-controlled airplane show last year at the Hendricks County Fair. They were a little bigger up close and personal than I originally thought, and the detail was amazing. This would be a great event for the whole family, and who knows, you may return home with a new hobby!
Hendricks Symphonic Society Spring Concert
The Hendricks Symphonic Society presents the final concert in its "Elements" concert series. "Wind - The Zephyrs of Spring" will be presented both Friday evening and Sunday afternoon.
The concert will be held at Plainfield High School, and tickets can be purchased in advance at many locations around Hendricks County, online or at the door. You will not want to miss this final concert of the 2014-15 season.
This is just a snippet of the fun events happening around Hendricks County this weekend. Be sure to visit the Visit Hendricks County Events Calendar for a full list of activities.
Have a great weekend!
