I love the weekends, don’t you? For me it’s the opportunity to do a bit of exploring and visit somewhere new. It’s nice to get out of my comfort zone and shake things up a bit. Let’s get to it and talk about what’s happening this weekend in Hendricks County. You’ll find there’s something for everyone on this list. Embrace holiday craft fair season The holiday craft fair season has officially started, and I confess I love to go to craft fairs. I can’t get enough Santa and snowman decorations, and just walking into a craft fair puts me into a festive mood. Stop by the Pavilion Center at Washington Township Park to attend this year’s Holiday Craft Fair from 9 a.m.–3 p.m., Saturday. What can you find at this year’s Fair? Candles, gourmet foods, jewelry, toys and more. Grab your holiday list and stop by this fun event. Learn about woodpeckers Stop by one of Hendricks County’s loveliest parks, McCloud Nature Park in North Salem for Nature's Excavators: Woodpeckers of McCloud. All ages are welcome from 2-3:30 p.m. on Saturday for a hike to search for resident woodpeckers at McCloud Nature Park and to learn about what they eat and what they do. Stock up on produce and homemade treats I can’t get enough of farmers markets, so I recently visited the Brownsburg Autumn Farmers Market at Brownsburg Town Hall. This indoor market is smaller than the summer Brownsburg Farmers Market, but on my recent visit, I stocked up on gourds (which I use for fall decorating), green peppers, onions, flowers and some wonderful homemade cherry jelly (some of the best I’ve tasted). The market is open 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, and the best part is you're supporting local vendors. Shop for one-of-a-kind finds A few people on my holiday list love unique gifts or those “one-of-a-kind” gifts. I find that it is hard to think of new ideas every year without a little bit of help. Well, Visit Hendricks County made it easy for me and you this year with gift ideas for: Kids , Teens, Dad, Mom and Everyone else. Even for someone like me who knows Hendricks County pretty well, I found a lot of ideas that I need to check out and some amazing shops I had never heard of. Have a little fun and know when to “fold ‘em” (for a good cause) I’ve been to Las Vegas a few times, and I’ve had fun playing roulette and black jack. If you're like me, you will want to check out an event this weekend in which the United Way of Central Indiana is bringing a little bit of Vegas to Hendricks County. The United Way's Monte Carlo Night will be held from 7-9:30 p.m. on Saturday and would be a great way to cap off a Saturday at the Metropolis Mall in Plainfield. This event at the Duke Event Center is much more than a night of gambling. It is all about a good cause as proceeds benefit the United Way. You can play some games and enjoy hors d’oeuvres, desserts and a chance to win some prizes. Tickets are $40 a person or $75 a couple. Sounds like an ideal evening to me. You can click here to purchase tickets for United Way’s Inaugural Monte Carlo Night. Don’t forget to check out Visit Hendricks County Events Calendar anytime for a full list of activities in the county. I’m already counting down the days until Friday!
