This year marks the 250th anniversary of our country's Declaration of Independence. Dubbed America 250, cities and towns across the nation will celebrate in a variety of ways, all year long, and Hendricks County, Indiana, is joining in with festivals, special events, themed activities and more.
Mark your calendar for one or several of these special events across the county and celebrate America 250 with friends, family and neighbors.
As you might expect, July 4 events include plenty of America 250 activities, including the Hendricks County Symphony Orchestra’s third annual Star Spangled Spectacular on June 26 and 28.
The Town of Avon will include special 250 recognitions during its annual Night at the Park on July 3 and the Brownsburg Lions Club’s annual parade, live music and carnival weekend June 29-July 4, will celebrate our nation’s independence too.
Hendricks County is known for its amazing 4-H Fair. This year's fair, July 19-25, comes with the theme Stars, Stripes, County Fair Nights, celebrating 250 years of America.
Plainfield's Quaker Day Festival and Parade is Sept. 19 and will be packed with America 250-themed events and celebrations as well.
Towns across Hendricks County will host events to read the Declaration of Independence or to issue a proclamation, officially recognizing the country’s 250th birthday.
At the courthouse in Danville, residents and visitors can enjoy a reading of the Declaration of Independence at noon on July 8 - the first time it was read in public 250 years ago, and Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will host other readings in Avon, Plainfield and Brownsburg.
- In July, Ms. B’s Teas in Clayton will host a ‘Tea Through the Ages’ event, taking guests on a journey back to the Boston Tea Party and the changes tea enthusiasts saw over the years.
- On Oct. 29-Nov. 11, the Brownsburg Field of Honor will return for its second year, featuring 500 American flags displayed on the Town Hall Green, including 26 historical flags, representing different eras of the nation’s history in honor of America 250.
- Finally, don't miss the Hendricks County Historical Museum's display on patriots buried in Hendricks County, available all year long, or the opportunity to participate in the time capsule they'll put together this summer.
