Each October, the scarecrows invade Danville, Indiana, where you can enjoy a stroll around the courthouse square and check out some spooky and silly displays.
The scarecrows are the creation of local businesses and, in some cases, local families. It creates a fun way to support the community and an annual autumn tradition that decorates the square, providing a little fun for everyone, leading up to the Scares on the Square event.
Scarecrow Displays
I love walking around the square with our kids in downtown Danville once October arrives to see what the local businesses and organizations come up with for their annual scarecrow displays. They are so creative and fun, and provide some good photo ops, and we always try to pick a favorite display!
You can stop by throughout the month of October to check out the displays.
Scares on the Square
While the scarecrows come out and stay through the month of October, winners won't be announced until the Scares on the Square event held from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 31.
During the event, Downtown Danville transforms into a Halloween celebration for all ages. The evening will include food trucks, trick-or-treating around the square, scavenger hunts and more.

Our Favorites
I walked around the square with our youngest to check out each display. He had fun finding the smaller kid-sized scarecrows while I enjoyed seeing the creativity.
Each display is unique and not too scary, which was great for my little ones. The favorites were the Hendricks County Garden Club with the spiders and birds throughout the display, and the Green Realty display with the yellow brick road. We'll have to wait until Scares on the Square to see which one wins the top prize!
