Step Back in Time: The Prewitt Restaurant & Lounge in Plainfield Indiana
Published on
The Prewitt Restaurant & Lounge in Plainfield, Indiana, brings together history, style and exceptional dining in a space unlike any other in Central Indiana.
Once a 1920s movie theater, it now stands as one of the area’s most distinctive restaurants where thoughtful design meets modern hospitality.
From the glowing marquee to the final course, every detail feels intentional, warm and memorable.
History & Events
Originally built in 1927 as the Prewitt Theatre, this downtown landmark has long been part of Plainfield’s story. After decades of hosting moviegoers, the building was carefully restored and reimagined into a high-end restaurant while keeping its original character intact.
Additionally, the Prewitt uses its stage and screen to host weekly events, including music bingo, trivia nights, murder mystery dinners, movie nights, live entertainment and more.
Food
The Prewitt’s menu highlights fresh ingredients and modern American flavors, with dishes like the Wagyu Corn Dogs, Short Rib Bowl, and an 8-oz Choice Filet with truffle mash.
Guests will also find seafood, shareable plates and seasonal specials that make every visit feel a little different. The menu is perfect for both special occasions and a night out close to home.
Bar
The bar offers a polished and comfortable atmosphere where guests can unwind with premium wines, signature cocktails and a standout bourbon selection.
Every drink is mixed with attention to balance and detail, mirroring the restaurant’s approach to food. It’s a great spot for a pre-dinner drink, happy hour or a relaxed evening out.
Speakeasy
On the top floor, a Speakeasy dining area offers a more intimate and playful vibe, perfect for date nights, small gatherings or a late-night cocktail.
The low lighting, leather seating and creative drink menu give it just the right mix of style and mystery. It’s the kind of spot where the night naturally lingers a little longer.
Rooftop Patio & Chef's Room
The rooftop patio provides a scenic backdrop for dinner or drinks under the stars, while the Chef’s Room offers an elevated private dining experience for small groups or celebrations.
Both spaces strike the right balance between comfort and sophistication, making every occasion feel special. And the rooftop dining area even stays open during the winter when the restaurant unveils its annual igloo experience.
