Since moving to Hendricks County, Indiana, we have discovered a wide variety of top restaurants.
We have our go-to spots, but we also like to try new places though having three young children in tow makes some places easier than others to take the whole family.
Most restaurants have kid menus which is helpful but there are a few places that go the extra mile to make kids and families feel welcomed. Here are my top picks in Hendricks County.
Pizza King, Avon
I didn't grow up in Indiana, but I have friends who did and who often reminisce about the magic that is Pizza King, and how it holds a special childhood memory!
The Avon location recently did a remodel but they still have the trains deliver the drinks which our kids love! Pizza King also offers variety in their menu, so all members of our family can find something they'll love!
Oasis Diner, Plainfield
Oasis Diner is right on Main Street (U.S. 40) in Plainfield and is often known for their tenderloins and hand-crafted sodas. The diner had been in town since the 1950s and has been restored to look and feel vintage. Besides good lunch and dinner foods, they serve breakfast all day which is a huge win for a kid-friendly meal!
It's laid back, and they have a box of Etch-A-Sketches for kids (or even adults) to play with while they wait for the food. Kids also eat free on Mondays after 4 p.m. with the purchase of a regular-priced entree.
Books & Brews, Brownsburg
Books, games, food and beer all collide at Books & Brews in Brownsburg. Our kids love playing games and having so many to choose from.
And kids eat free on Wednesdays and Sundays with the purchase of an adult entree! They often have events throughout the month, and you can check out the Books & Brews Facebook page to stay informed.
Mayberry Cafe, Danville
This cafe is truly a unique, authentic, local gem straight out of The Andy Griffith Show. If kids finish their meal, they get a token they can either exchange for a free ice cream sundae or a small toy (bouncy ball, back scratcher, handcuffs, etc.) before they leave.
What a fun way to include kids in the excitement of eating out! They have daily specials, a lot of kid-friendly options and they recently started serving breakfast on the weekends.
Pinheads & Alley's Alehouse, Brownsburg
This may be the ultimate place for dinner with a side of family fun! You can enjoy dinner with great menu items from Alley's Alehouse while you enjoy bowing and arcade games!
And kids eat free on Tuesdays after 4:30 p.m. with the purchase of an adult entree. You can book online for some midweek family fun!
