Top Places for Pie Within an Hour of Hendricks County Indiana
Published on
It's hard to beat a delicious piece of pie to satisfy your sweet tooth after a meal or just because. If you're a fan of fruit, chocolate, sugar cream, pumpkin or countless other varieties of pie, let's take a look at some of the best places to find them in and within an hour of Hendricks County, Indiana.
These first four locations for outstanding pie are on the Indiana Foodways Hoosier Pie Trail and are located in Hendricks County or neighboring Morgan County.
Later on, I'll add some other locations within an hour of here that aren't on the trail, but are also good and worth a visit.
Bread Basket Cafe & Bakery
Located in Danville, the Bread Basket Cafe & Bakery uses local ingredients and creates masterful pies from scratch. In fact, their dessert case in the center of the dining area is a sight to behold, filled with made-from-scratch pies and cakes by their amazing bakers.
Some of my personal favorites include their raspberry cherry, triple berry and peanut butter pies.
Rusted Silo Southern BBQ & Brew House
A barbecue joint may not be the first place you think of when you're seeking a slice of pie, but Rusted Silo Southern BBQ & Brew House in Lizton hits the mark in a big way.
Not only is their barbecue absolutely amazing, but their bourbon pecan pie is also out of this world. Rusted Silo uses Wick's pie shells and fills them with Jim Beam bourbon-toasted pecans, vanilla, butter and sweet Karo corn syrup to make a sticky-sweet slice of heaven with just a hint of Kentucky bourbon.
Oasis Diner
The historic Oasis Diner in Plainfield has a lot to love. The restored and relocated 1954 Mountain View Diner is rich with history and ambiance, and they're known for doing a lot of things quite well, including tenderloins and hand-crafted sodas.
Oh, and they offer amazing pies from The Singing Crust Bakery, too. You can grab a delicious slice of the official state pie of Indiana -- the sugar cream pie -- at the Oasis, or tantalize your taste buds with some apple, rhubarb, cinnamon peach, blueberry or other pies.
Martinsville Candy Kitchen
Renowned for their homemade candy canes and other candies, the Martinsville Candy Kitchen in Martinsville also offers delectable pies. Their sweet pear winter pie is my personal favorite, along with their oatmeal cream pie.
The Martinsville Candy Kitchen has been open since 1919, so they know how to do sweets right!
Singing Crust
Not only does the Singing Crust provide breads and sweet treats for the Oasis Diner, but you can also purchase pies from the bakery itself at their storefront in Belleville!
Singing Crust offers more than a dozen different varieties of pie. To get the kind you want, you'll need to arrive early or order online through their website, as it's not uncommon for them to sell out.
Pots & Pans Pie Company
Located at 4915 N. College Ave. in Indianapolis, Pots & Pans Pie Company specializes in seasonal sweet and savory pies.
They use local ingredients to create wonderful take-and-bake pot pies as well as the sweet pies we all crave.
My Sugar Pie
My Sugar Pie, located at 40 E. Pine St. in Zionsville, offers a huge assortment of fruit pies, cream pies and other favorites like French silk, mint chocolate chip, s'more and many more pies.
Order the pie of your choice online and then pick it up at the Zionsville location about 48 hours later. You can also choose your pies online and have them shipped to your house.
Taylor's Bakery
Taylor's Bakery is a fourth-generation, family-owned and operated bakery that opened in 1913. It is located on the northeast side of Indianapolis at 6216 Allisonville Road.
These folks bake apple and cherry pies daily, and they add key lime pie in the spring and summer, as well as pecan and pumpkin pies in the fall.
