If you think you've tasted your way through Hendricks County, Indiana, think again. Hidden in plain sight on local menus are some truly unexpected but wildly delicious dishes.
These are the kind you don't just eat, you remember. The dishes that make such an impression, you tell everyone about!
So, here are five entrees I've found that you need to add to your list of culinary favorites:
1. Wagyu Corn Dogs At The Prewitt
Corn dogs aren't just for the fair anymore. The Prewitt Restaurant + Lounge has elevated this fair favorite with luxurious Wagyu beef. Served with gourmet dipping sauce, it's the ultimate mash-up of childhood comfort and fine-dining fare!
This menu item is served as a starter at the Plainfield restaurant, making it a great option for those going out for drinks and appetizers. Their happy hour specials are a perfect time to try this unique spin on a corn dog.
2. Cinnamon Roll French Toast At The Bread Basket
The Bread Basket Cafe & Bakery's menu is filled with delicious bites, but their Cinnamon Roll French toast is a fan favorite and has even been nationally recognized as the best breakfast dish in Indiana!
And you can see why! A giant cinnamon roll is sliced, dipped in egg batter, filled like French toast and topping with sweet icing. A perfectly sweet gooey twist on a breakfast classic that can be found in Danville.
3. Hawaiian Fried Rice At Siam Thai
One of the chef's specials at Siam Thai in Plainfield, Indiana, includes shrimp in a sweet and sour sauce, then served in a pineapple over steamed rice.
The food is delicious, but the pineapple presentation adds a special flair. The added benefit is the sweetness of the pineapple!
4. Traditional High Tea At Ms. B's
Need a place that feels like you've traveled to England to have tea and biscuits, but it's only a few minutes from Indianapolis? Ms. B's Teas is it.
You can indulge in their daily tea service or reserve a time for a special tea tailored to the celebration. They serve traditional English treats like Jammy Dodger cookies, too. A delicious treat that isn't on many local menus!
5. PB&J Burger At Square Burger
Another local favorite is the Pb&J burger at Square Burger in Danville. The hamburger includes white cheddar, bacon, peanut butter, pepper jam and jalapeño crispers. A flavor combination worth the visit!
Square Burger is a newer spot right on the courthouse square in Danville that's quickly becoming known for its unique monthly burger creations!
