Local Landmark: Al's Donuts in Plainfield
Published on
Hendricks County has a handful of great and delicious local donut shops. But Al's Donuts in Plainfield is one that stands out.
It's been in business since the 1960's and even through different owners over the years, it continues to be a local landmark.
Last year, Eddie and Evelyn Lopez purchased this iconic donut shop, joining the local Downtown Plainfield, IN community and even added some menu items.
Updated Payment Options
When I recommend Al's Donuts to friends, many of them ask if they still only take cash. For years, it was a cash-only business, but a few years ago they changed that.
Many people still think they only take cash. Don't let those rumors deter you. You can now pay with cash or card at Al's Donuts.
New Menu Items
The new owners have kept some of the favorite donut menu items, but they've added new breakfast items such as biscuits and gravy, breakfast sandwiches, frapuccinos and smoothies. You can also customize your sandwich options to create your own breakfast creation.
They also have donuts that can be filled on request with fruit or Bavarian cream to create your favorite combination. They do still sell out! So go early to get your favorites, and check their Facebook page or call ahead to stay up to date.
Located in Downtown Plainfield
Al’s Donuts is located in historic downtown Plainfield, just east of the Oasis Diner on U.S. 40, and there's plenty of parking behind the building.
The building has been under construction lately, but Al's has remained open. Its location is also close to some of Plainfield's trails where you can take a walk or ride a bike.
Our Experience
We've gone multiple times over the years, and have always loved the donuts at Al's. On my most recent trip, we ran over on a Sunday morning, and there was a line, but it moved quickly, and our donuts were as delicious and fresh as always.
We also ordered an egg and bacon sandwich on a croissant, which was perfectly made to order. There are many iconic landmarks in Hendricks County, but this is definitely one you must experience.
