Roots Market + Eatery Combines Four Local Favorites in One Destination
Published on
There’s a new reason to spend a little extra time in downtown Plainfield, Indiana.
Roots Market & Eatery recently opened on Main Street, bringing together a neighborhood café, local market, bakery and butcher shop all inside one beautifully restored historic building.
It's the perfect place to grab breakfast, pick up dinner ingredients, meet friends for lunch or simply discover downtown Plainfield with a coffee in hand.
Historic Downtown Space
Roots Market & Eatery is located inside a building with deep Plainfield history. Originally built in 1900 by the Knights of Pythias, the space later became home to the old Plainfield Opera House, where the community gathered for performances, events and celebrations.
Today, that same spirit of gathering and connection still fills the building...just with fresh bread, sandwiches and meats instead of stage performances.
Fresh Sandwiches, Breakfast + Coffee
The eatery's menu features breakfast favorites, artisan sandwiches, specialty toasts, coffee drinks and flavored dirty sodas made with quality ingredients and local touches. Guests can grab everything from a quick breakfast sandwich or croissant to stacked deli sandwiches and comforting lunch favorites.
The build-your-own sandwich option also makes it easy to create exactly what you’re craving and find healthy options. Coffee, espresso drinks and flavored dirty sodas round out the drink menu, giving visitors another reason to stop in throughout the day.
A Bakery Worth The Stop
Inside Roots, guests will also find Singing Crust Bakery, a locally loved bakery that opened its second location in Plainfield after building a following in Clayton.
The bakery case is filled with fresh pastries, croissants, muffins and breads, making it very difficult to leave empty-handed. Between the buttery croissants and sweet pastries paired with coffee, it will quickly become part of your morning routine.
Premium Meat
Roots is also home to Bravo Butcher Shop, offering a full selection of fresh cuts, sausages, burgers, steaks, seafood and more.
The market focuses on premium products and local sourcing whenever possible, making it a convenient stop for weeknight dinners, backyard cookouts or stocking the fridge with something better than the usual grocery store run.
Local Products + Market Finds
Beyond the restaurant and bakery, Roots also functions as a small neighborhood market stocked with Indiana-made products, meats, cheeses, grab-and-go items and locally sourced ingredients.
The market includes products from local and regional producers, making it a great stop for lunch, dinner ingredients, snacks or picking up something unique to bring home.
