What You Need to Know About Oinking Acres Farm Rescue & Sanctuary
Published on
Did you know that Hendricks County, Indiana, is home to one of the largest farm animal rescue and sanctuaries in the area?
It's tucked away on the outskirts of Brownsburg, but Oinking Acres Farm Rescue and Sanctuary has become a Hendricks County icon.
The Woman Behind Oinking Acres
Olivia Head, owner of Oinking Acres, adopted her first pig when she was 14 and quickly realized there was a need for a pot bellied pig rescue. With the help of her mom, she turned her family farm into a safe haven for unwanted pot bellied pigs.
But it didn't stop there!
More than Just Pigs
Even though Oinking Acres started as a potbelly pig rescue, over the years they've discovered a huge need for space for other animals. They currently have peacocks, goats, donkeys and more!
As people have gotten to know their purpose, they've become known as a place that will welcome and help these animals as long as space allows. So, they get calls often for a variety of situations. They've even been involved in difficult hording and abuse cases.
Adoption is the Goal
Olivia and her team of volunteers often get calls to take in animals in need. Over the years, they've added space to the farm through donations and other resources.
But their goal is to have the animals adopted into loving homes, and limited resources can be a barrier in accepting new rescues.
So, Oinking Acres offers a digital adoption where you can sponsor an Oinking Acres animal in need.
How You Can Help!
There are many ways to help Oinking Acres in their mission. You can make a one-time donation or become a patron and contribute regularly. You can shop their Chewy or Amazon wish lists or even volunteer your time!
If none of those options work, a simple visit to the farm can support the cause, too!
Public Tours
You can even help by visiting and taking a self guided tour! They are currently open Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and tours are $10 a person. All the proceeds go to the organization. When you visit, there is a small gift shop too where you can purchase items that will also benefit the farm.
Always check their Facebook or Instagram which are updated regularly about hours and events.
Events on the Farm
Over the last few years, Olivia and her team have created a variety of events for the community to visit the farm as well as raise funds for the organization in a unique way.
Follow their social media accounts to see upcoming events. From date nights to yoga on the farm there's something for everyone. They even host field trips!
The Back Forty
Olivia's sister, Jesse Head, has added to the farm space with her own business that complements Oinking Acres well. She opened a small general store and flower farm called The Back Forty.
It adds another great spot to your tour of the farm.
