5 Hendricks County Locations for Great Fall Pictures
Published on
I love the fall season and everything about it: the smells, the colors, the weather and the sweet treats.
Looking back, some of my favorite family pictures are in the fall season too and Hendricks County, Indiana, has some great backdrops for the perfect photos.
From parks to orchards and everything in between, check out some of the best photo opportunities around.
1. Avon Gardens
Surrounded by beautiful plants and flowers, water features and natural landscape across five acres at Avon Gardens, it would be difficult to pick which background you liked best.
It’s a great place to visit during their public hours, and you can snap a photo or two but if you want to schedule a session for homecoming, senior pictures or professional photos, be sure to contact them several days ahead of time.
2. Arbuckle Acres Park
There’s a beautiful bridge crossing White Lick Creek in one of Brownsburg’s oldest parks.
We often stop at Arbuckle Acres for the playground or to attend a baseball game toward the front of the park but take time to walk the 1.3 miles of trails and head into the wooded areas for your best fall scenes and you won’t be disappointed.
3. Beasley's Orchard
Beasley’s Orchard in Danville offers a beautiful backdrop and is one of my go-to’s for family photos anytime of the year, but especially in the fall. A visit to the family-owned and operated orchard comes with natural props like apple trees, pumpkins and a historic Civil-War era barn.
In the fall, there is a themed festival nearly every weekend and don’t forget to snap those photos of the kids having a blast taking a hayride or playing in the Barnyard Bonanza too. If you plan to schedule a professional photo session, be sure to call ahead for details.
4. McCloud Nature Park
The further west you go in Hendricks County, the drive alone is picture perfect but I recommend you stop at McCloud Nature Park near North Salem for pictures along Big Walnut Creek, the historic iron truss bridge and throughout the six miles of hiking trails.
With 232 acres of natural habitat, it’ll be difficult to choose your favorite spot and the views, particularly in the fall, shouldn’t be missed.
5. Hummel & Echo Hollow Parks
The best fall photo opportunities in Plainfield were a challenge for me, simply because there were so many. Guilford Township's Hummel Park is popular among professional photographers and amateurs alike.
I think this year though, my family will try Echo Hollow Nature Park. Formally known as Sodalis Nature Park, the Town of Plainfield is making plans to create educational and recreational opportunities across the 310 acres. Today, it’s home to a 5.5-acre pond, five miles of walking trails and beautiful scenery.
