No matter where we go, many of us are on the lookout (without even realizing it sometimes) for a great backdrop for photos! Not only do they make great keepsakes, but they make fantastic social media posts to show our friends and families what we're up to!

Those not familiar with Hendricks County, Indiana, may not realize what an Instagrammable county we live in.

Here is a list of the top Instagram-worthy locations in Hendricks County. The next time you want to shout to the world that you love where you live (or that you loved your trip visiting us), make sure you include these places on your bucket list and either tag us @HendricksCounty or include the hashtag #inHendricks.

The Prewitt Restaurant & Lounge

Located in downtown Plainfield, this historic building that once served as a movie theater has become a culinary delight! A combination of magazine-worthy food and unique dining experiences on multiple floors has quickly made this restaurant Instagram friendly.

Oasis Diner

This is definitely a top choice for me when it comes to taking Instagram photos! The old-time sign out front and bright colors make photos look like they came straight out of 1954, when the diner was established. Make sure you get a photo with their famous tenderloin inside this Plainfield restaurant, lined with their original red cushioned booths and barstools.

The Shops at Perry Crossing

While this Plainfield shopping area has retail stores and restaurants, the real appeal in regards to Instagram is their brand new mural painted right next to the Finish Line in front of the fountain in the center of Perry Crossing. This colorful painting provides the perfect backdrop for group photos.

Beasley's Orchard

There can't be a season where Beasley's Orchard in Danville doesn't have the perfect set up for some amazing pictures. At Christmas, they have their festive Christmas decorations, farmer's market gifts and Santa in an old-fashioned sleigh.

In the summer, there are some beautiful backdrops in their strawberry fields during u-pick season and their sunflower fields.

And then, of course, the season they've become known for, fall, brings pumpkins, mums, apple cannons, hayrides and apple cider slushies (gotta have those accessories in your pictures), all at the ready to not only record your favorite memories but make lasting photos for your social media posts.

Avon Gardens

Avon Gardens is tucked a little out of the way but is well worth creating your next Instagram moment. Meander behind the garden shop to follow stone steps to a creek, surrounded by beautiful tall trees and flowers.

It's mystical and magical and feels like you may even stumble upon a fairy or two. I've taken my own kids down there for some impromptu photos.

McCloud Nature Park

Really, any of our parks throughout Hendricks County provide their own special spots for photos. But for the purposes of brevity, I will highlight McCloud Nature Park in North Salem, which is a tad further away but worth the drive with its wild prairie lands, wide creek and meandering trails to explore.

The last time I hiked here with my family, I was constantly pulling out my camera to take pictures as the scenery felt like it was constantly changing. Add to that the historic iron truss bridge that has become an Instagram favorite, and you truly have a place worth the visit.

Mayberry Cafe

This old-fashioned nook on the square in Danville pays homage to The Andy Griffith Show providing plenty of Instagrammable options. While the inside is nostalgic, it's the outside that makes for some great photos with the Mayberry Cafe awning and Sheriff Taylor's squad car parked outside!

Grab a bite to eat (I recommend Aunt Bee's fried chicken) while you're there and make it a memorable outing.

Murals

Hendricks County has a slew of murals that have popped up in recent years providing great Instagram content. From bright colorful works that tell a story like the one on the side of a building on the north side of the square in Danville showcasing the history of the county to ones that build a sense of place or were created to provide photo opportunities, the county has developed quite an inventory.

Some of the many places to see these murals include in the B&O Trail tunnel under Ronald Reagan Parkway, ASH Interactive in Brownsburg and Copper Top Customs in Clayton.

While this isn't an exhaustive list, it's a great place to start. Take your pictures and tag us so we can see more and share!
