Morning
Start your weekend off right with a visit to Who North America. Opening at 11 am, this Whovian paradise is the only Doctor Who themed museum and retail store in North America, and boasts a massive selection of merchandise, collectibles and one-of-a-kind Doctor Who and British-inspired inventory.
You won't want to miss the full-sized TARDIS, the museum with the shop's private memorabilia collection that spans multiple decades since the show began or the Doctor Who-themed arcade.
If you're in town on Oct. 19, 2024, the experience goes up a notch with their annual Doctoberfest event from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The festival is free to attend, and will feature special guest Keith Barnfather, who has directed, edited and produced Doctor Who shows and related content for years.
This year's theme is "INFILTRATE" with several science fantasy and fiction writers in attendance in addition to the usual events and activities for the whole family.
Lunch
After satisfying your Doctor Who fix, make your way to The Shops at Perry Crossing for a delicious lunch at one of their many restaurants.
Whether it's burgers at Bru Burger Bar, Tex-Mex at El Toro Bravo or Italian at Theo's, there's something for all tastes and cravings.
Plainfield has several other great options for a variety of tastes. If you're into craft brews, check out Brew Link Brewpub.
For classic American eats including burgers, tenderloins and some breakfast specials served all day, visit the Oasis Diner.
Afternoon
After lunch, you have to swing by D's Vintage Toys and Collectibles. Right in the heart of The Shops at Perry Crossing, D's stocks a host of brands from Funk-Pops, Hot Wheels, Star Wars, Masters of the Universe and more.
Additionally, D's has an extensive collection of comics books of many varieties, and sports cards and memorabilia.
D's also hosts daily board and card games from noon-6 p.m. Select from a wide variety of options, including Harry Potter Hogwarts Battle, Dominion, Dead by Daylight and so much more.
You are also welcome to bring your own games and play at one of their four gaming tables that can hold up to 10 players.
Other fun activities within The Shops at Perry Crossing include axe-throwing at LumberjAXE, indoor golfing at X-Golf or indulging in a sweet treat at Schakolad Chocolate Factory in addition to the traditional shopping at various national brands or catching a new release at the mall's state-of-the-art movie theater.
Evening/Dinner
Head to downtown Plainfield to experience a burgeoning night life scene. Grab a bite to eat and a drink at a refurbished former theater, The Prewitt Restaurant + Lounge.
Also downtown is the brand-new Tlahcos, presenting authentic and upscale Mexican cuisine.
This will take a little preplanning, but after dinner, you could perhaps catch a concert or show at Hendricks Live! Some options this fall include John Hiatt on Oct. 12 or the Dave Matthews Tribute Band on Oct. 26. Check out their event calendar for more options.
For your stay, select from Plainfield's 20 hotels. Among them, the newly opened Residence Inn, and the Courtyard by Marriott, stationed within The Shops at Perry Crossing.
Day 2
Morning
Depending on your mood, take multiple routes for your morning nourishment. Drop by the classic Al's Donuts for a tasty donut though you must get there early before they sell out. If you would rather sleep in, you can order from Mama Bird's Bakery where we recommend you try the Danish Braid or their Brunch Box.
If you want a more classic breakfast or brunch, make your way back to Oasis Diner or Flap-Jacks Pancake House.
Mid-Morning/Lunch
If you're looking for one last stop before you head out, make your way over to Echo Hollow Nature Park to take in the beautiful fall foliage. Echo Hollow has stunning hiking trails, a pond and an array of birds and other wildlife. It is potentially the most secluded and tranquil place in Hendricks County, as it is completely surrounded by protected Indiana Bat habitat.
Finally for lunch, choose from the dozens of great restaurants across the county. Here's a list of some of our top options, according to Indiana Foodways.
