Me, Myself & Indiana: Solo Travel in Hendricks County
Published on
There’s been a rising trend in solo travel in recent years. That may be because singles want to explore and don’t need a partner or group to join them. More businesses may be catering to solo travelers, or perhaps it is all about enjoying some “me” time while visiting a new place.
Regardless of the reason, Hendricks County, Indiana, offers safety and affordability for the solo traveler with plenty of attractions you won’t want to miss!
Outdoor Adventure
Take in the Hendricks County scenery with a stop at McCloud Nature Park in North Salem, or bring the fishing pole to Echo Hollow Nature Park in Plainfield and enjoy the trails there, too.
If horseback riding is more your thing, head to Natural Valley Ranch, where you can enjoy a guided tour through their pristine, private property that includes wooded areas, ravines and much more.
History & Beauty
If you're looking for architecture or history, Danville would be my recommendation. Explore the historic County Courthouse rotunda, the Hendricks County Historical Museum and The Blanton House; a restored Georgian Colonial Style mansion just on the outskirts of town.
As a bonus stop, don’t miss Avon Gardens. It may lack historic architecture, but it more than makes up for it with its stunning beauty, making it a location not to be missed.
Shopping
From antiques to boutiques, Hendricks County has plenty of hot spots to explore. Visit Clayton and check out Copper Top Customs and Highway 40 Mercantile.
Gilley’s Antique and Decorator Mall in Plainfield is popular, or you could make a day of it and stop by the variety of boutiques across the county.
Wind Down & Relax
Nothing says 'solo trip' like a great massage at Cass & Company Salon in Avon, or a manicure and pedicure at one of the many salons and spas in the area.
Hendricks County offers a range of services, from lash and brow care to Botox, so book your appointment and take some time to pamper yourself.
Dining Solo
Dining solo can be tricky at times, and you might be tempted to run through a drive-through. However, these locations offer an experience above and beyond their delicious food.
Grab a counter seat at Oasis Diner and enjoy their award-winning tenderloin sandwich and a milkshake. The folks at two small-town establishments: Rusted Silo Southern BBQ and Brew House in Lizton and Perillo's Pizzeria in North Salem have never met a stranger. Pull up a chair and try some of their popular menu items.
Festivals & Events
Visit Hendricks County maintains a running list of events happening in the area. So, depending on the time of your visit, you may be able to catch the Hendricks County International Festival, NHRA U.S. Nationals or Hendricks County Rib-Fest & BBQ.
Also, look for events at Hendricks Live!, Hendricks County’s premier performing arts center for live music, performances and other entertainment. Heck, why not plan your trip around an event?
Where To Stay
Hendricks County boasts numerous traditional hotels in three distinct clusters, including Brownsburg, Plainfield, and Avon.
If you are a solo traveler yearning for something beyond the ordinary, we would recommend the Marmalade Sky Bed & Breakfast in Danville.
