Experience Life on the Farm Near Indianapolis

A visit to the local farm offers a unique experience.
There are often animals to feed, fruits and veggies to pick and while it’s a ton of fun, there’s likely to be some educational moments too.
Abundant Joy Farm
Alan and Cassandra Siktberg’s Abundant Joy Farm is home to alpacas and Flemish Giant rabbits. Their goal is to educate and mentor the next generation of farmers, and they host group tours and field trips at their Lizton farm.
Be sure to make an appointment in advance but if you want a sneak peak, the Siktberg’s invite the community out for their Lights with the Alpacas event each winter.
Beasley's Orchard
You won't find any animals on this farm, but it’s an experience nonetheless. Beasley’s Orchard offers a nearly year-round u-pick season of strawberries, apples, raspberries and of course, pumpkins in the fall.
They operate a market from their Civil War-era barn, and the amazing smells and sights are sure to prompt questions from little ones. Though we often think of the family farm as the perfect spot for fall events, stop by in the spring or summer and Beasley’s has plenty to do.
Montrose Farms Alpaca Ranch
There are so many misconceptions out there about alpacas, and Lori Lovely remains front and center in Brownsburg, trying to dispel them all.
Her historic property is home to several alpacas, and she offers plenty of opportunities to learn more about them. Schedule a tour in advance or sign up for one of the many public activities and events like Alpaca Yoga, Painting With Alpacas and Wine Tasting.
Oinking Acres Farm Rescue & Sanctuary
Oinking Acres Owner Olivia Head has made it her mission to provide a safe haven for potbellied pigs and they are adorable. However, the farm also shares goats, chickens, ducks and other animals with visitors.
Oinking Acres remains open to the public nearly every weekend for a minimal fee and for the full experience, check their website for a list of food or how you can help make fast friends with the four-legged residents of the farm.
Natural Valley Ranch
It’s not exactly a farm but an experience for sure. Natural Valley Ranch offers horseback trail rides and lessons you can register for, but anytime during operating hours, guests are welcome to check out the interactive animal area too.
Pack a picnic for the afternoon and enjoy time with goats, rabbits, sheep, chickens, pigs and more. If you call ahead, they’ll even let the little ones enjoy a pony ride in the outdoor arena.
