Bleisure Travel Options for the Entire Family Near Indy
Published on
The idea is gaining in popularity. It’s called bleisure travel – a mix between business and pleasure. One person heads to the conference in the morning while the other takes the kids to a DIY spot or sightseeing for the day, reuniting in time for dinner or a special event as a family.
You’re already staying in one of Hendricks County’s top-notch hotels and conference centers. Let us help plan an itinerary for your downtime or consider extending your stay by a day or two to enjoy all the activities and amenities you don’t want to miss.
Family Fun
Need a place to keep the kids entertained? In addition to the parks and trails across the county, don’t miss Slick City Action Park in Brownsburg or Urban Air Adventure Park in Plainfield for a day of jumping, sliding, zip lining and climbing.
What’s more, the adults can join in too.
Just For Couples
Want to make it a date night? Enjoy a meal at The Prewitt Restaurant & Lounge, a converted former historic theater turned fine-dining establishment and then walk across the street to Hendricks Live! to catch a unique show.
Or check out one of Hendricks County’s many hotspots to grab a drink such as Brew Link Brewing in Plainfield or Central Normal Tap in Danville.
Local Attractions
Some locations are perfect for everyone. Beasley’s Orchard, for example, is a fun place to enjoy shopping in their year-round market or popular u-pick season.
You can also check out the Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds and Conference Complex for a schedule of activities ranging from the county fair to the popular Hendricks County Rib-Fest & BBQ in the summer to a variety of other events and shows all year long.
Dining
Whether you’re visiting on your own or bringing the entire family, there are a few dining spots you won’t want to miss.
Check out the Mayberry Café in Danville for a unique experience. Rusted Silo Southern BBQ in Lizton and Perillo’s Pizzeria in North Salem are few small-town hidden gems as well.
Shopping
Don’t miss The Shops at Perry Crossing, an outdoor lifestyle mall, in Plainfield or spend the day stopping at various antiques and vintage stores, such as Copper Top Customs in Clayton or Gilley's Antique & Decorator Mall.
We also have some fun specialty stores like Toy Buzz and Fizz in Plainfield, home decor shops like Mary & Martha in Brownsburg and boutiques like Style Threads in Avon.
The Great Outdoors
Hendricks County has fabulous parks and trails systems. McCloud Nature Park in North Salem offers hiking trails and a 100-year-old iron truss bridge, overlooking Big Walnut Creek, not to mention the many programs and offerings in their Nature Center.
You can visit Avon Town Hall Park with two playgrounds, outdoor ping pong tables, a 9-acre fishing pond and an Rc dirt track. If you are here in the summer, you have to spend a day at one of our waterparks.
