This year, the Hendricks County 4-H Fair will continue our year-long celebration of America 250 with the theme, Stars, Stripes and County Fair Nights. Once again, Hendricks County residents and visitors can enjoy a variety of entertainment, livestock shows, carnival rides and unique events at one of the best fairgrounds you will find in Indiana, July 19-25.
Stop by any day of the week (or several days) and find something for everyone to enjoy. Be sure to register for events you want to participate in and check back on the 4-H Fairgrounds website for regular updates and information.
The fair always has a hometown, patriotic vibe to it with watermelon-eating contests, carnival rides and of course, fireworks, but this year, in honor of the 250th anniversary of our nation's independence, the Hendricks County Fair will host a few special events, such as a Veterans and Military Appreciation Day on July 20 with a ceremony at noon.
Look for all four American Legion posts displaying memorabilia and information in the Expo Hall and Abraham Lincoln, portrayed by Danny Russel, to get your photo taken, ask questions and visit with the 16th president.
Check out the variety of competitions featuring best-in-show, including dogs, goats, horses, llamas, swine, rabbits and poultry. Even when a competition isn’t happening, visitors can walk through the barns to see the animals and chat with 4-Hers who have learned everything they can.
Don’t miss the Small Animal Pavilion for the smaller four-legged fair guests, too.
Whether you’re participating in the baby, Little Mister, Little Miss contests or competing in the Kids Pedal Tractor Pull, there’s plenty to do for all ages.

Throughout the week, catch free entertainment, including high-flying aerialists, the pioneer village, a magic show, wood-carving demonstrations and so much more.
The annual Chopped Challenge, benefiting Family Promise of Hendricks County, and the car show with Cluster Busters Hot Rod Club both return on July 19.
Nearly every evening at the Fleece Performance Grandstands, visitors can attend action-packed events including the popular rodeo for two nights, demolition derby, truck and tractor pulls and other unique events for the entire family.
Tickets to these additional shows are sold separately from fair admission.
Don’t forget to stop by the Expo Hall to see the 4-H exhibits, featuring photography, sewing, baking and other projects. Other activities include the Baked Goods Auction on July 19,
Junior Bakers and Open Blueberry Contests on July 23, and the Hendricks College Network’s college and career fair on July 21, to name a few.
Mention the fair, and people typically think of two things first – food and rides. Don’t worry, there are plenty of food options, and the carnival offers rides for all ages.
The Midway Rides will open from 5 to 10 p.m. July 20-24 and 1 to 10 p.m. July 25. Purchase tickets in advance, and get unlimited-ride specials for one price.
