The summer often gets away from us. You have all these plans and ideas and before you know it, school is starting again and the weather begins to cool.
It’s been open since 2022 but this is the first summer my family has enjoyed a day at Murphy Aquatic Park in Avon, Indiana. If you haven’t made it to this Washington Township Park for some fun in the sun, you’re truly missing out!
At Murphy Aquatic Park, visitors have options with the main pool, the toddler pool and the largest wave pool in central Indiana. The wave pool was a huge hit for my crew, and we spent hours on the two waterslides.
The toddler area was the only spot we didn’t test out, but it had zero-depth entry and large umbrella shades for the little ones.
Perhaps what makes this water park most unique is the water playground – the first ever to be ADA-accessible. It’s zero-depth entry allows all our friends to join in on the fun with wider runways for wheelchairs and ramps to access every level of the play area.
They also have water wheelchairs on site for visitors with mobility challenges to use for free.
There is plenty of outdoor seating at Murphy. However, if you want to have a little more privacy or shade, a number of cabanas are available for rent.
They also have birthday party packages available and will rent the entire facility for a large corporate event, family reunion or other special occasion.
Outside food and coolers are not permitted inside Murphy Aquatic Park. However, the Compass Café offers an extensive menu with pizza slices and burgers along with a full list of ice cream and drinks to cool off on a hot summer day.
Murphy hosts a Sensory Swim every Tuesday from 9 to 11 a.m. The pool is at 50 percent capacity, the wave pool has been turned off for a quieter environment and activities are a little calmer.
They also offer swimming lessons, both private and group, for ages toddler to 13 and many other events throughout the summer season.
We spent the day at the pool but couldn’t help noticing the nice (and ADA accessible) playground on the same Washington Township Park property.
It features a chair zip line, accessible slides and a merry-go-round. Even when the pool closes for the season, Murphy Aquatic Park will still be a great place to visit year-round!
