The moment I stepped through the door of Plainfield, Indiana's newest eatery I knew I was somewhere special. Best described as a cut above, Tlahcos Mexican Cuisine is the perfect place to savor the good things in life.

During my recent visit, I found myself feeling as if I were on vacation -- able to unwind and just enjoy the delicious moment stretching out before me. Read on to hear all you can enjoy at this new Hendricks County hot spot.

Love at First Bite

Fresh, inviting menu items from Tlahcos

On our first visit, I sampled the vegetarian tacos, expecting something good, but not to be blown away by each carefully crafted bite as I was. It was rich and roasted, flavorful yet simply delicious. Their street corn and black beans with crisp tortilla chips delighted with each bite.

We didn't want to stop. We didn't, until we absolutely had to. I vowed to visit again soon, and this time save room for something new.

Set the Scene

Mexican art abounds at Tlahcos Mexican Cuisine

Situated in the first floor of the parking structure across Center Street from the newly-opened Hendricks Live!, the unassuming exterior conceals a hidden treasure. Upon stepping inside, the lighting is dark and moody, but balanced with bright, celebratory decor to create an air of mystery and excitement.

Starters

Excellent appetizers to be found on the Tlahcos menu

Our next visit started with fresh guacamole, although it was a difficult decision when faced with their variety of other flavorful options.

The menu, though not massive, forces you to make tough choices from appetizers all the way to dessert. But you can simply never go wrong with guac!

From the Bar

Craft cocktails and more on the menu at Tlahcos

The bar menu creates a similar dilemma. A thoughtful selection of wines from Mexico, Chile and Argentina are selected to pair perfectly with the cuisine. They also offer a respectable selection of draft beers, but the cocktail offerings alone are worth the visit.

My mojito was a refreshing muddle of mint and bright citrus, and the malbec my husband chose had us both wanting another glass. I also noticed homemade horchata and agua de Jamaica on the list, which will be fun for our little ones to try when they come with us.

On to Entrees

Fresh, crafted cuisine from Tlahcos' kitchen

The menu features an amalgam of popular items throughout Mexico rather than from one region alone.

From Azteca, a ribeye cooked to your liking and served on a hot stone with shrimp and smoky chipotle sauce to Flor de Pina, a halved and grilled pineapple stuffed with savory chicken, shrimp, steak and bacon. This is not your typical dining experience.

Save Room for Dessert

Decadent desserts at Tlahcos Mexican Cuisine

The Tres Leches Cake is scrumptious, especially since the chef adds a generous pour of Grand Marnier for an orangey infusion of flavor that tops any recipe I've tasted before.

The Chocolate Flan was an unexpected delight, with a layer of chocolate cake topped with Mexican eggnog flan and a spiced berry reduction that unites the varied flavors instead of overpowering them.

Room to Party

Room for large gatherings in the Tlahcos dining room

The space has been carefully designed to feel intimate, yet capable of accommodating large groups quite comfortably. Two private rooms also allow for quieter gatherings, and the bar seating is still as desirable a space as the rest of the dining room.

There's room to expand an outdoor patio in the future, as well.

Join the Club

Members of the Tequila Club will have access to their own Tlahcos liquor locker

Consider becoming a member of the Tequila Club for access to private tasting events with special food pairings by the chef.

Members can soon enjoy VIP status by having their own private nameplate on an in-house liquor locker as well.

Nightlife

Look for live entertainment coming soon!

Though they've only just opened in April, Tlahcos has grand plans to be an entertainment and dining destination in the not-so-distant future.

From live music to an in-house disc jockey to salsa dancing lessons, there is much to look forward to, so grab a seat and enjoy the ride!
