Painter Matthew Piotrowicz recently moved to the county and is gaining popularity for his true-to-life portraits, decorations and children's book. We found his work at Copper Top Customs in Clayton. A great children's gift is "The Super Splashy Spectacular ABCs of Animals" book and flashcards. It provides a fun way to learn the ABCs. Additionally, prints of his holiday paintings are available, and you can even hire him to do a portrait of your pet! Finally, his hand-painted wooden ornaments are beautiful and would make a great addition to anyone's tree this holiday season!

One of our favorite places to explore during our Gift Guide scouting is Forget-Me-Nots in Danville. Filled with barnwood creations, we discovered hand-crafted wood coasters this year, each with an outline of the state of Indiana and a town name. He thoughtfully designs each custom-made birdhouse with proper ventilation, cleanouts and hole sizes suited to Indiana’s native birds. He uses durable woods, like white pine, his artistic talent and safe acrylic paints and sealants — never varnishes or materials that could harm the birds — to build dwellings that not only last but are fun and eye-catching.

Slick City in Brownsburg offers all the thrills of a water park without any water. You've never been to an indoor location with slides like this. Brie & Bartlett offers more than just charcuterie in its small restaurant. We loved the handmade, custom greeting cards sold there. Created by North Salem resident Jodi Bondy, owner of Hoosier Photo Organizer, the cards are blank inside, but exude a fun, artistic vibe on the outside. They include an envelope and are available for every occasion, including anniversaries, birthdays, get well and just because.

The Fudge Kettle has expanded its freeze-dried section with various flavors of freeze-dried pickles. Flavors include garlic ranch, buffalo and chamoy with Tajin. The Parks Foundation of Hendricks County is currently promoting a trip to Yellowstone National Park as a fundraiser to benefit parks right here in Hendricks County.
