Newly opened in Clayton, Indiana, Highway 40 Mercantile offers antiques, boutique clothing, primitives, Amish-made goods, furniture, classic candy and more.
You'll be able to find unique gifts or the perfect item to decorate your home. It's a great addition to our small shops so remember to support local in Hendricks County.
Rooted in Local History
Karran Alvarez opened Highway 40 Mercantile earlier this year in Clayton but her roots have been in Hendricks County for generations.
Her family owns Freije & Freije Auctioneers and before that, her grandfather owned a general farm store right on U.S. 40 where they'd sell everything from groceries to farm equipment to candies.
Nostalgic Candy and Toys
As a nod to her family's former general store, Karran has included a section of the store dedicated to vintage toys and old style candy.
You can find jiffy pop to rock candy to giant taffies to Necco Wafers at Highway 40 Mercantile. These candies bring back memories and make a fun gift!

Seasoned Vendors Provide Quality Finds
With more than a dozen seasoned vendors, each booth offers quality products. Many of these vendors have been perfecting their eye for antique and unique finds for decades.
The variety of vendors ensures something for everyone. You'll find antique cookware, clothes from The Rustic Attic, vintage tools and even Antique Candle Co. items. I grabbed a few Amish grocery items at one of the booths, and they're the perfect addition to my Christmas gifts.
